From the Deacons

Well here we are, in the season of Lent! We are meeting on Wednesday evenings in the parlor for discussion and sharing of "The Good News". In these troubled times it is sometimes hard to remember that we do have happiness and well-being in our lives. We need to focus on these things and talk about them in light of the 24/7 news stories that seem only to bring tales of sadness.

We are happy to say that at our first meeting we had 14 people present and we heard from each person a story that was uplifting. One member stated that she had thought that she had had a pretty grim day but in retrospect after listening to others stories she realized that, in fact, some very positive things had happened and she was happy to share her thoughts.  In any event, if you haven't already joined us, please feel free to drop in any Wednesday in Lent. We begin at 7:00 in the church parlor and will stay as long as needed to hear and discuss the "Good News" we share.

On Maundy Thursday, March 29th, we will be joining the First Congregational Church in Holliston for a service at their church at 7:00 PM and Rev. Katie Keene will preach.  The Rev. Bonnie Steinroeder has invited us and we have accepted the invitation. There will be more information as the time gets closer.

We will be having a Good Friday service on March 30th at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary.  Rev. Katie Keene will lead this service.

And just like that, it's Easter and we will join together to celebrate the best "Good News" story ever written. As we did last year, we are requesting people bring their favorite spring plants for the altar. Tulips and Easter Lilies are always welcome but Daffodils and Hyacinths, etc. are great too!!

We leave you now, as always, with great hope for the future of our church,

Easter Flowers
         Bulletin Information is due
            Sunday, March 25th

Again, this year, we are asking that you purchase and deliver your own plant(s) to the Church for  Easter Sunday, April 1st.

Any type of plant is acceptable - we are going to make the Altar look like a "Spring" Garden!

If you would like to participate, please plan to deliver your plant(s) to Linda in the Church Office  between 9:00 AM - Noon, Monday, March 26th through Thursday, March 29th or you may bring  them with you on Easter Sunday.

As always, you may take your plant(s) home with you following our Easter Service or you may  leave them on the altar and they will be delivered to a sick or shut in.

Flower Forms are available in the Narthex or you may call Linda in the Church Office and she will fill one out for you.    Thank you!

This year, will be the  50th Anniversary for Walk for Hunger!  Please save the date AND  join our church's team on Sunday, May 6th.  You may walk all or part of the 20-mile route starting and ending at the Boston Common.  You will collect pledges by asking your friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor you.  Your donations will help fund more than 400 emergency food programs and provide struggling families with a hot meal and hope; right in their own neighborhood.  Your walk will help feed children, seniors, people with chronic illnesses, and the working poor, all right here in Massachusetts.
So join us .... Together, we can make a difference!
Please speak to Sue Wallace for more details.

If you would like to make a donation to our team, please make your check payable to Project Bread and give it to Sue Wallace or drop it off in the church office.  Thank you!

Brown Bag Sunday

On the third Sunday of every month, we collect and bless the donations placed inside the bins in the Narthex  of the Church.

There are many families in Ashland that rely on the generosity of others to supplement their limited grocery budget.

Would you please consider picking up a few extra non-perishable grocery items  while you are shopping?   You may bring them to the Church on Sunday morning OR drop them off at the Church during the week.  All items are delivered to the Ashland Food Pantry.

Thank you for your continued generosity.

We're All In This Together, Inc. (WAITT)

We're All In This Together, Inc. is an organization that was started by Nadine of Purple Ink Insurance in Ashland. The purpose of this organization is to invite businesses to contribute 1% of their sales, on a particular day of the month, to various non-profits, charities or foundations within the community.

The Thrift Shop has been receiving donations from various businesses in town, since this organization started in September 2014.

Last month, Nadine visited the Thrift Shop and bought several items. She even wrote up a nice article promoting the Thrift Shop and included it with all the monthly contributions that were sent out
to the chosen non-profits, charities and foundations
for the month of February.

We are grateful to Nadine and all the participating businesses in our community.

Ashland
Bereavement Support Group

The Bereavement Support Group BEGINS April 5th - The Ashland Community/Senior Center is starting a monthly drop-in bereavement support group. The group will meet on the first Thursday of the month from 1:30-3:00 PM. Grief support helps people recognize normal aspects of grieving, cope with the pain associated with the loss, feel supported through life changes and develop healthy coping strategies through support and self-care. The goals of the group will be to provide support as well as to offer opportunities to form new friendships. We welcome all adults who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The facilitator is Donna Vuilleumier, an experienced hospice spiritual and bereavement counselor. To register or for information, call the COA office @  508-881-0140 or send an email to [email protected]
