Here's what's new on the Martin County 4-H website this month!
Horse Canopy Project at the Martin County Fair

A request of a donation over $2000 from Martin County 4-H has been made to help with the costs of purchasing and installing a canopy that will be on the south side of Kietzer Arena. This donation request will be discussed and possibly voted on at the March 19th Federation Meeting.

4-H Afterschool STEM Adventures

Join us to explore and discover the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! Martin County 4-H will provide a fun-filled hour of hands-on STEM activities and experiments at the Truman Library!


NEW! This year LQA&E (YQCA) Online Training

Online LQA&E training for active 4-H members. Only good for One (1) year/fair season and is $12 at the  4-H'er's expense..

LQA&E Training: Levels I & II  Saturday March 10 from 2-5 pm

Martin County 4-H will host LQA&E Training for Levels I and II on Saturday, March 10 from 2-5 p.m. at the Martin County Resource Center (the basement room of the Martin County Human Services Building) in Fairmont with check-in beginning at 5:30pm.

4-H March Livestock Quiz Mania Madness

Play games and take quizzes in the comfort of your home to accumulate points! You will earn 5 points each time you complete a game or quiz during the month of March. There are questions available for ALL Livestock areas!  TOP 3 OVERALL SCORES ON MARCH 30th WILL WIN PRIZES!


4-H Needle Arts Workshop Series

Do you have an interest in learning more about 4-H Needle Arts? A series of two workshops are being offered to help you create your very own Needle Arts projects to exhibit at the County Fair! You will learn the basic techniques and receive the materials needed to get you started on a path to a life-long hobby! Feel free to join in one or both of the workshops (please note the age requirements of each). We promise to "leave you in stitches!

Next Council and Federation Meeting Scheduled for March 19

Reminder that the next scheduled 4-H Federation is on March 19 at 7:00 pm at the Martin County Courthouse. The Council will meet at 6:30 pm prior to the Federation Meeting.

Performing Arts Project Club

The next Performing Arts meeting will be on Friday, March 30 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm - Attending performance of Seedfolks at the Fairmont Opera House as a group. Meet at the Fairmont Opera House lobby at 1:00 pm where we will meet as a group before walking together into the theatre. Performance will run 1:30 pm to approximately 3:30 pm.

Martin County 4-H Shooting Sports Practice
Shooting Sports practice will take place every Monday night from 7-8 pm until August 27th except May 28th and August 13 at the old Sears in the Fairmont Mall. Please use the Door#43 behind the building on the west side.

SAVE THE DATE: 4-H Presentation Day 2018
4-H Presentation Day will be taking place on Saturday July 14 at the Fairmont Opera House.

Horse PDC Meeting - Save the Date(s)
Martin County 4-H Horse PDC Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00 pm at the Courthouse. An additional meeting is scheduled on May 8 at 6:00 pm at the Courthouse.

2017-2018 Martin County 4-H Ambassador Schedule
The Multi-County Spring Leadership scheduled for Sunday, March 11 has been CANCELED! There will not be an Ambassador Meeting in March. Our next meeting will be Sunday April 8 from 1 to 3 pm.

Severe Weather Reminder
We would like to remind you that all county 4-H meetings (as well as most club meetings) will be postponed or cancelled when there is threatening weather. We will do our best to cancel/postpone meetings at least two hours before their scheduled time.

Andrea Ruesch Regional Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted
Application Deadline March 5
This scholarship is for high school seniors and first-year college students currently enrolled in 4-H in Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Rock or Watonwan counties.

It's Time to Register for SW 4-H Summer Camp!
SW 4-H Camp registrations are now open! Youth in grades 3-6 will not want to miss out on this amazing camp adventure. Camp will again be held at Shetek Lutheran Ministries Camp on Lake Shetek. Campers will choose from five exciting tracks. Tracks will fill up fast, so hurry to make sure you get your favorites. Camp dates are June 20-22.

Associate dean and state 4-H director Dorothy Freeman talks about citizenship - 4-H is about growing local and global citizens. People who are skilled, competent and committed to lives of service.
 
Over the past several months, multiple 4-H teams from across Minnesota have showcased their learning at a national level - find out how!
 
New in 2018 - 4-H animal science members can participate in one of two options for Livestock Quality Assurance certification training: 1) Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E) training, or 2) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training. All youth participating as state fair 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete Livestock Quality Assurance training requirements.
 
The AKSARBEN Stock Show will be held in Grand Island, Neb. Sept. 27-30, 2018. It's open to 4-H members from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In it, 4-H youth exhibit livestock, compete in quiz bowl and judging, apply for scholarships and internships to work with the AKSARBEN Stock Show.
 
Helping Hands grants helps fund worthy youth development programs or projects that young people seek to pursue in partnership with supportive adults and local businesses. Grant awards are between $200 and $2,000. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by March 1.
 
Several scholarships are being offered for Minnesota 4-H youth pursuing post-secondary studies at accredited colleges and universities. Over $20,000 is awarded annually through a competitive application process. Visit the 4-H scholarship website to learn more and apply.
 
A 4-H dairy goat judges training is being planned for Saturday, May 19 at the Benton County Fairgrounds. Adults interested should mark their calendars now! Registration materials will be available soon -- stay tuned form more info.
 
Register by April 6 for the April 21-22 training to be held at the Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisades. This training is for Minnesota 4-H adults and youth (9th grade and older) that lead or would like to lead training in shooting sports or wildlife.
