Denim and Diamonds - Lone Starry Night - April 7th
Through your generosity and support, the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools awarded grants totaling $451,100 to teachers for use in their classrooms this year. The Foundation is funded primarily from Annual Appeal and the Denim and Diamonds (D&D) Gala and Auction. The Foundation's goal this year is to cover D&D costs with sponsorships prior to the night of the event so all monies spent at the event go directly to fund classroom grants.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host its 12th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. This year's theme is a Lone Starry Night. Foundation for Lovejoy Schools Chair, Carrie McClure and Co-Chair, Aimee Peay welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment and live auctions.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle for three great prizes, which includes:
  • $2500 VISA gift card - donated by Owens Realtors

LHS Robotics
The Lovejoy Extreme Engineering Robotics team ended up ranked 5th in the state VEX Robotics Skills Competition on Saturday. They just missed qualifying for the VEX Robotics World Championships later this year in Louisville. Congratulations to sophomores Chase Barnes, Ian Carroll, Brenden Diaz and Ross Walenciak for a great effort!

LHS Wrestling - State Championship Results
This was our largest number of state qualifiers in total to date, with three men and four women attending.  It was the most women we have qualified to wrestle in the state tournament ever.  What makes us more excited is that six of these wrestlers will be returning next year for another year!  We are a young group and look to improve upon this showing.

With that being said, we had two women make history for our women's program in becoming our first state place winners!  Sophomore Alex LeFort and Junior Morgan Elvin both placed 6th place in their respective weights!  They wrestled some great matches on their way to the podium and we are very excited to see what they will do next season to improve upon this placement.  In addition, our women's team finished in the top 20 of the state (#19 out of 80 teams) for the first time in history.

Junior Lilly Musselman and Freshman Charis Vela also wrestled some very tough matches but did not place.  Both will be back next year!

Freshman Ralph Rucker wrestled well in his first state tournament, winning his first match. He lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual state champion.  He did not place but gained some valuable experience that he will use next year.

Sophomore Hunter Duncan improved upon his finish from last year, reaching the round of eight before losing a narrow decision. Hunter was one match away from placing and will no doubt use this experience to improve again next year.

Senior James Ayers was the alternate at his weight and unfortunately did not get the chance to wrestle this weekend. James finishes an outstanding career for the Leopards with 27 wins this year, his career single season best!

LHS Baseball
The Varsity Baseball team went 2-1 over the weekend in the Wylie East Raider Classic. After opening with a loss to a tough pitcher for Princeton Thursday night 5-2, the Leopards responded well with a 6-2 win over Sherman and a 6-5 hard-fought win against a very strong McKinney North team.

Lovejoy 6 Sherman 2

The Leopards received excellent pitching performances from Nathan Fallon and Luke Finn who combined for a 7 inning 4 hit performance in the win. The offense was led by Luke Stine and Jordan Yoder. Stine had a 2-Run HR and Yoder collected a double and a single in addition to 3 RBIS.

Lovejoy 6 McKinney North 5

Jacob Eschler was outstanding on the mound going 6 innings and giving up 4 hits. Eschler left in the 7th with a 6-1 lead. McKinney North made a furious comeback in the 7th scoring 4 runs. Cameron Pool entered the game and was able to put an end to the North rally by collecting his 1st save of the season. The offense was led by Luke Stine who added another 2 RBI home run and by Logan Bowling, Luke Howell, and Mason Marsh who each collected an RBI.

The Leopards will head to the Jesuit Classic this week and will play 6 games in the tournament.

Supporting LHS Students through Senior Project Judging
It is difficult to believe how quickly the school year is flying by. At the high school, this means that some LHS Seniors are nearing the time for their Senior Project Presentations.

Senior Project is an exciting part of every LHS senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8-10 minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.

We want to extend to you the invitation to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place at Lovejoy High School on March 7th. Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. and should conclude by 8:30 p.m. at the latest. Judges training begins at 5:30 p.m. for those who have never judged Senior Project presentations. Those who judged in past years may arrive at 6 p.m. A light meal is served each night.
