Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute
$50M gift to transform diagnosis, treatment

Johns Hopkins Medicine and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy announced the new Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute , founded with a $50M gift  from the UAE to improve diagnosis , treatment and patient recovery from stroke . The announcement was made Feb. 1 in New York City ; speakers included JHU President Ronald Daniels; Dean/CEO Paul Rothman, Mayor Michael Bloomberg; and UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba Learn more .

Underrepresented in Medicine students meet alumni

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine students and house staff joined alumni at a special  Dine with a Doc reception for students Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM). Funding for Medical Student Groups
28 medicine-related programs granted stipends

The Johns Hopkins Alumni Association awarded 28 medicine-affiliated student groups up to $2500 to support upcoming programming. Grantees include the Distinguished Teaching Society of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Student Sight Savers Program, which will designate its funds to expand collaborations with community-based organizations to conduct vision screenings. 
House Staff Alumnus Honored 
Ophthalmologist receives international recognition

Suber Huang, MD (House Staff - Opthalmology, 2004),  is the 2018 recipient of the Jose Rizal International Medal from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. The Jose Rizal Medal is given to an outstanding ophthalmologist who has demonstrated excellence in ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the organization's  highest recognition for contributions to education and clinical care. Huang is the  president and founder of The Retina Center of Ohio in South Euclid, OH.
125 Years of Innovation
A look back at innovations since 1893

Since 1893, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has been a prolific source of medical innovations. In October, the school will celebrate its 125th anniversary. In the latest issue of Insight, review some of the impressive historical innovations, such as the establishment of the postoperative intensive care unit and the discovery of restriction enzymes. The 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals and Best Children's Hospitals reputation surveys are now available.  If you are a board-certified physician in a ranked U.S. News specialty area and a Doximity member, you are eligible to take the survey by logging on to Doximity.com or the Doximity app by March 22.  New board certifications have been added to the list of those eligible to vote in this year's survey, including neuroradiology, vascular surgery, pediatric neurosurgery and transplant hepatology.
