2-1-1 2-1-1 Monthly Report for January 2018
Noteworthy Updates
During the month of January, 5,050 calls were handled by 2-1-1 Resource Specialists and 7,385 health, housing and human service referrals were provided. Of the unduplicated callers, 74 % are female, 29 % are single mothers with minor children, and 53 % reported they are living with disabilities . The Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, Director of Information Technology, and Information Technology Engineer all attended the Regional Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience (RCISR) Toolbox Institute Concluding Meeting. A key component of the RCISR is the "Cross-Sector Information-Sharing System" also known as "RCISR InfoXchange". This is a framework, collection of tools and templates, sets of standards, and dashboards that allows establishing communities of interest, which allow various information providers and organizations to more easily share information for purposes of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

A single male from Newark called seeking emergency shelter. He was sleeping behind a convenience store at night because it was open 24 hours and he felt safe. He had been temporarily living with family but the landlord said he could no longer be there. He received GA but had a pending case with SSI. 2-1-1 transferred him to the South County Housing Resource Center, which is a part of Alameda County's Coordinated Entry System that was implemented in late 2017. 2-1-1 also provided him with information for the Extreme Cold weather shelter at the Fremont Senior Center to try and get shelter for the night.

Databases

1 agency and 2 programs were added to the Services Database for a total of 1,194 agencies and 3,062 programs.

434 New units were added to the Housing Database for a total of 87,890 total housing units.

Websites
Eden I&R's health and human services data is provided free through the agency's publicly accessible websites at www.edenir.org and www.211alamedacounty.org , and www.achousingchoices.org . In January across all of the Eden I&R websites, we received 27,337 page views and 6,405 sessions/visitors.
 
Information was added to www.edenir.org about the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Meetings
Staff attended 19 meetings with external partners. This included the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator attending the first meeting of the recently revived Ashland Cherryland Healthy Community Collaborative, founded at the request of Alameda County District 4 Supervisor Nate Miley, and serving the needs of the population of the unincorporated areas of Alameda County known as the Ashland and Cherryland districts. A significant number of Eden I&R's clients are in this area.

Fairs / Events / Outreach

In January, Eden I&R served 294 people at trainings, events, and fairs and distributed 2,925 pieces of outreach materials to service providers and residents of Alameda County. These include:

  • 2-1-1 staff hosted a booth and provided resource referrals to participants at the Alameda County Department of Social Services Resource Fair at the Eastmont Self-Sufficiency Center in Oakland, and the City of Pleasanton Recreation for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (RADD) Tri-Valley Transition Information Night.
  • 2-1-1 staff conducted trainings for, and provided resource referrals, to participants at a Disaster Training for Childcare Providers hosted by the Community Child Care Council (4C's) of Alameda County in Union City; a Disaster Training in Disaster Skills for Seniors hosted by Southlake Towers Senior Housing in Oakland; a Presentation and Tour of Eden I&R for Nursing students from Cal State East Bay; and a Presentation and Tour of Eden I&R for Karen Cauble, co-author of a book about domestic violence, who needed information and materials for a special event for domestic violence survivors, hosted by the Fremont Main Library. 
  • Outreach materials were distributed to Cal State University Bay Area in Hayward; an individual in Newark; and the Alameda County Community Food Bank in Oakland.

  • In-service presentation by United Way Bay Area regarding the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! tax program
  • One Call Center Staff Meeting
Technology
  • Staff participated in the Regional Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Toolbox Initiative Concluding Meeting.

  • Staff met with representatives from Benetech, a nonprofit software company, for a Service Net Data Analysis Meeting. As part of a pilot project, 2-1-1 Alameda County agency and program data were compared and analyzed in conjunction with other I&R providers and social service agencies from throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento.
