Student Reflections for Black History Month

NASW-NJ asked a group of social work students for their reflections on
Mrs. Malika Berry . Photo courtesy of Berry's Butterflies.
how African-American social workers have contributed to the profession and how these students, as future social workers, hope to honor that legacy. Here are some of their responses.

Erica Manansala, BSW student at Seton Hall University, discusses the impact created by contemporary social worker Malika Berry
of East Orange.

Lara Carter, also a BSW student at Seton Hall University, reflects on the lifetime work of social worker, lawyer, and judge   Edith Spurlock Sampson.

Thanks to all the students who submitted reflections!

Social Workers and Public Libraries

Partnerships between social workers and public libraries are underway in three municipalities in Somerset County.

Many people are beginning to see public libraries as an ideal setting for the delivery of social services. An article by the Washington Post notes "as centers for community engagement and access to technology, people in need of assistance in many cases are already library patrons."
