Dear St. George Families,
Lent is a time of reflection and growing closer to God. It is also a time for prayer, especially for all of the families that have been tragically affected by last week's events at Parkland High School in Florida. This tragedy hits especially close to home for all of us; students, parents, faculty and administration.
You may be wondering what procedures does St. George School have in place to help protect students and staff? There is no simple answer to this question but below are some of the things that we have in place.
- Regular practice of emergency drills (fire, code red, code green and code blue)
- All of our emergency drill procedures have been thoroughly vetted and approved by first responders.
- Students are given explicit instruction on emergency procedures.
- Teachers are trained throughout the school year on emergency procedures.
- Classrooms all have blinds, and are easily locked.
- All visitors to campus are required to sign in at the school office.
- All school volunteers are required to have current FBI background checks and fingerprinting.
- A full-time sheriff deputy on site from 7:00am until 6:00pm.
- The deputy circulates regularly monitoring all areas of the campus.
- Regular evaluations of safety/security needs and procedures through parish/school Crisis Response Team.
- Regular improvements of physical campus security needs are made on an ongoing basis.
Additionally, we are working in conjunction with St. George Parish on a comprehensive safety and security plan that will encompass all aspects of parish/school life on the St. George campus.
Additional security fencing is scheduled to be installed this spring and summer further limiting access to school buildings.
One of the characteristics of intruders is often they feel alone and unloved. One of the strengths of our school and parish lies in the foundation of the family unit. It is important as parents that we are engaged in our children's lives. The greatest gift we can give our children is our time. It is important, it is essential, and it means the world to them. The gift of time demonstrates our love of our kids, our caring, our faith. With your love, faith and guidance your children will grow into adults that will make our world a better place for all.

2018-2019 BEFORE/AFTER CARE
- Re-enrollment for currently enrolled families, including new students who have a sibling already in the program, will begin on February 26, 2018.
- Enrollment for new students and other interested families will open on March 5, 2018, on a first come first serve basis.
- No forms will be accepted early.
- The last day for enrollment for all families is March 9, 2018.
- Enrollment forms and information will be posted on the school website and RenWeb on the afternoon of Friday, February 23.

All families are encouraged to monitor your students' cafeteria purchases with an

There you can set up alerts and make payments by credit card or bank draft. It is not necessary to make payments in order to set up an account. We will always accept check or cash payments at school.

Students may wish to participate in the following ways to make each teacher feel special:
Monday: Give your teacher a quarter (The coke machine in the lounge is 50 cents)
Tuesday: Special Teachers Day - Bring a small surprise to the Art, Computer, Spanish, Guidance, Music, Library, PE or Religion teacher that your child has that day
Wednesday: Give your teacher their favorite snack or fruit
Thursday: Give your teacher a card, note or prayer
Friday: Give your teacher a school supply
Door Prizes Are Needed for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on March 8th
If you would like to donate a door prize to be given out at the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon please send to the school office with your name on it. You may also contact Courtney Morel at
225-354-9775. All individuals and/or businesses will be recognized at both the luncheon and in Dragon Tales. Every year our parents/businesses are so generous in their door prize donations, so thank you in advance for your continued generosity. Remember no amount or item is too big or too small!
