Required Acolyte Training for Crucifers
There will be a few new additions to our worship services for the season of Easter that our clergy need you to learn. We need all our current crucifer acolytes to attend one of three available training sessions. (This is not intended for middle school torch and banner bearers.) Please sign up online ASAP to attend one of these three trainings:

Sunday, February 25, 12:30-1:30
Monday, February 26, 5:30-6:30
Sunday, March 18, 1:30pm to 2:30

Contact both acolyte masters Robin Jager & Donna Ellis via email if you have a conflict with all three dates or if you're a 9th-12th grader that wants to become an crucifer.

Acolyte Party, April 15, 2018
Father John wants to personally thank all our youth acolytes for being such wonderful worship leaders. If you're interested in becoming an acolyte, contact our acolyte Masters, Robin Jager & Donna Ellis.
Holy Peeps Project
6th-12th graders are invited to participate in the St. James's Holy Peeps Project. It's a contest too! Youth make a shoebox diorama of a bible story or liturgical action using Peeps marshmallows candies as the characters that we'll display in an art exhibit during Holy Week. All parishioners are invited to come vote during the Pancake Breakfast on Palm Sunday. The 3 winners will be posted in the Narthex following the 10:30 Palm Sunday worship service- they'll win a prize! Grab a flyer for more details or contact Mary Beth at [email protected] .

The youth leaders are excited to take middle schoolers to Shrine Mont for a youth retreat weekend specifically designed for 6th & 7th graders and one in May for 8th graders. These retreats are organized by a group of high school students from around our diocese that are part of a committee known as Parish Youth Ministries (or PYM). Event information and registration forms are available on the church website. Questions?

What do we do? We stay in hotel rooms and cottages at Shrine Mont, eat in the dining hall, meet with small peer-groups, have some free time to relax, and have a blast at the Saturday evening program.

Who's Going? St. James's adult youth leaders and any 6th & 7th graders or 8th graders interested in participating in this fun weekend retreat. Yes, you can bring a friend who doesn't attend St. James's. They just need to register like everyone else.

Cost : The weekend costs $150 per person. You'll also need about $20 cash to cover the cost of meals on the road trip to and from Shrine Mont. Scholarships are available by contacting Mary Beth Abplanalp.

To register or find out more click here for 6th & 7th grade and here for 8th grade or email Mary Beth at  [email protected] . Everyone needs a current Universal Permission Form

Registration deadline for the 6th & 7th grade retreat is April 9th, and for 8th grade retreat it is May 7th

SYF Last Supper, March 29

Maundy Thursday is a very special day in the church year with extremely rich symbolism. It also has lots of weird things too....like washing of feet! The youth ministry is organizing a Mediterranean dinner, aka "Last Supper," before the Maundy Thursday service on 3/29  for 10th-12th graders. We hope you'll come to enjoy a light supper and conversation about Maundy Thursday, the Last Supper, and FEET! Our hope is to all walk away with a deeper understanding of this liturgy, the symbolism, and a greater comfort level with things like the foot washing (which is actually an incredibly beautiful symbol of Christian love and service). Dinner will begin at 5:45. Worship is at 7:00.

March for Our Lives-To End Gun Violence, March 24, 2018
"March For Our Lives" is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar." Some of you have expressed a strong desire for the St. James's Youth Mini
stry (youth and parents) to attend the March For Our Lives event being organized by students from Florida to be held in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 24. We see the Holy Spirit inspiring young people to end gun violence and St. James's will gladly support and amplify your desire to engage in this courageous and worthy effort. Please email Mary Beth Abplanalp at [email protected] and let her know your interest, what you need, and how we can help. This past weekend our Carmen Germino preached a powerful sermon about the events in Parkland and St. James's connection to it. Read her sermon here or watch it here. Bishop Shannon Johnston released this related message on 2/19 that identifies other tangible ways to respond to this tragedy.
