Why Should Your Family Choose
Central Catholic?
You've read my story, but I always feel best sharing our students' stories about why Central Catholic was right for them . . .

“I am able to grow both in faith and academics with other students who share the same goal as me: to strengthen my relationship with God while receiving a well-rounded education that will prepare me for life and college.”
-Claire Swanson, Class of 2018

"I am the first person in my family to attend Central Catholic, but I look around my classes and see many of my classmates have had parent and grandparents come through as well. Where you send your kids is a big decision, and I think it shows a lot that so many families have sent their kids and grandkids to this school.”
-Thomas Smith, Class of 2018

“Ever since I was a little kid, Central Catholic has been a big part of my life. I get to experience being part of a family and you can’t always feel that way at other schools. Being able to talk about my faith with my friends and classmates has truly helped to shape me into a better person and central is the reason for that.”
-Bailey Coffman, Class of 2019

“It means more than education. It means faith and family. Central Catholic is not only somewhere you can go to receive the best education a parent would want for their kid, it is a place where every person you see is like your brother or sister. It is a place where your teachers are like your best friends. Most importantly, it is a place where your connection with God only grows stronger.”
-Meghan Sheehan, Class of 2019

“It means being in a Catholic environment surrounded by friends and faculty that help and support you in your faith, academics, and social life. Students learn many skills, even beyond the classroom, that will help them later in life. Also, we are always open to Christ and his wondrous works, and can always visit him in the chapel.”
-Zach Tomerlin, Class of 2019

“I love being a part of a school that lets me freely express my love for our faith and knowing I won't be judged for it because I'm surrounded by people who have just as much enthusiasm for Jesus as I do.”
-Katherine Rossi, Class of 2019

And here's a favorite quote of mine from one of our young alumni . . .

“There has never been a moment in my four years that I have not felt like I am at home. This school has prepared me tremendously for my life both spiritually and mentally. Having a chapel and spiritually intelligent teachers available to me 24/7, has allowed me to grow closer to God and become the Catholic I have always wanted to be.”
 -Julia Nelson, Class of 2017,
current Freshman at St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN
How Does That Work?
I'm often asked, "Why does Central Catholic do that?" or "How does that work?" Think of this section as a way of getting you and your student a bit more ready for Central Catholic and our traditions. We'll cover different topics each week so stay tuned.
Living The Faith
I am often asked about the "service hours" program at Central Catholic. Well, the first time I asked about our "service hours" program to get an answer to share, I was politely corrected that this is not a "service hours" program; it is our Living the Faith program. After exploring further, I saw and understood that it is not about collecting service hours, it's about Living our Faith and being a witness to others.

This is straight from The Living the Faith page on our website and I couldn't say it better . . .

"The Living the Faith program is founded on the message and ministry of Jesus. Christ reached out to all people with His love, yet He touched in a distinct way the poor, the sick, the oppressed, the weak, and the needy. We, as disciples and Christ’s hands in the present age, are called to reach out to all people in love and to assist those in need.

Central Catholic echoes the need for our students to learn, serve, and carry their ministry beyond the school’s walls. Through their Theology class, students are instructed in the teachings of the Church and the message of the Gospel. The Living the Faith program is designed to complement this learning with ‘hands on’ experiences that challenge students to live the faith more concretely as it is passed on to us through Jesus Christ. This lived experience is intended to reinforce and solidify the student’s understanding of living the Gospel message by bringing Christ to others through charitable acts."

So what do our students need to do?
Every quarter students are required to do 5 hours of service. At least 4 hours must be Christian service while 1 hour may be “civil” service as explained below:
4 Hours: CHRISTIAN SERVICE
These hours consist of the spiritual and corporal Works of Mercy as well as service hours offered to local Parish Churches. Services to Parish Church include altar serving, mission trips, religious education teaching aids, etc. These hours directly assist the Parish Church, not the Parish School.
1 Hour: CIVIL SERVICE
These hours consist of any service for Central Catholic High School and/or Parish Schools (St. Mary’s, Epiphany, Holy Trinity). Other services that may also be accepted include service to the community such as Teens United, Scouts, etc.

Great Resources
In addition to the Living the Faith website linked above, check out these fun ways to better understand the program:

This is a great program that truly teaches our students about the value of service to our community. Many students continue to volunteer with organizations long after they graduate.
