Carondelet Christmas cheer was shared with the community at our inaugural St. Nick's Party.
St. Nick's Success!

Wow! What an event! This year Carondelet High School hosted its very first St. Nick's Party on the feast day of St. Nicholas. We hosted more than 45 children from the Monument Crisis Center's After School Cafe Program to experience the magic of Christmastime at Carondelet.

The children began their adventure in the Garaventa Center and made their way to the main building where they moved through eight different classrooms filled with activities like face painting, cookie decorating and visits with Santa. After eating a pizza dinner, each child selected four books to keep and received a warm pair of pajamas!

A special thank you goes out to all who donated items for this event as well as our volunteer buddies, ASB, Asian Music Club, Class Councils, Company Make-Up Crew, Jefferson Awards Students in Action, "S" Club, Spiritual Life Council, Ukelele Club and all of their moderators for the hours of time put into making this day special for each child.

"I want to thank each and every one of you, on behalf of all of us here at [Monument Crisis Center], for your enthusiasm and commitment to providing our children with one of their fondest memories of the year," said  Sabrina Eugster, the Center's  Family Resource Coordinator.  "Each of our children comes from a challenging situation, and I am so immensely grateful for you all for putting a huge smile on all of their faces."

College & Career Counseling for Freshmen

Last week, the College & Career counselors met with freshmen during their World Civilizations classes. The purpose of the sessions was four-fold: to better acquaint students with their college counselors (assigned by alphabet), to explore the course
catalog and four-year plan, to introduce Naviance, our online college and career platform, and to complete an exploratory career inventory.

The career exploration and subsequent self-discovery are meant to offer students clues to their innate abilities and to expand the possibilities of future careers. The results of each student's Career Interest Profiler and corresponding assignment will provide the counselors with valuable information that will be used during the academic advising process. Ask your daughter to share her results and her Holland Code with you!
Tutoring for Finals is Available!

Finals Week is next week! If your daughter needs help preparing for final exams and wants individualized assistance, Carondelet's National Honor Society is here for her!

New Books in the Library

This year the Carondelet library has been refreshing its nonfiction collection. This involves pulling dated or misleading books from the collection and purchasing new engaging books that support our curriculum. One may ask, "What happens to the 'old' books?"

Carondelet uses Better World Books which offers a no-cost program that returns "the greatest value by selling them on over 50 channels and returning a portion of the net proceeds to support literacy and libraries."

In addition to selling our old books, every time a book is purchased on BetterWorldBooks.com the company donates a book to a library in need, including those in communities and at schools that were recently devastated by natural disasters, as well as international and missionary schools and other libraries in need.
