In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, as they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.

The film is in English, but Spanish subtitles can be available for one or both of the showings. Come early to retrieve an AVNC reusable bamboo utensil set, and start cutting down on your plastic use today!

Sidewalk on your property causing problems?

In December of 2016, the City of Los Angeles launched Safe Sidewalks LA, a 30-year, $1.4 billion program to make sidewalks accessible to everyone.  The City of Los Angeles is committed to repairing sidewalks and improving accessibility.   The Rebate Program reimburses an eligible property owner for a portion of the cost of their sidewalk repair.

To begin the process, follow the simple steps at  http://www.sidewalks.lacity.org. You can also call 3-1-1, or use the MyLA311 mobile phone app.

Atwater Village Homeless Count

On the evening of January 25th, Atwater Village participated in the Los Angeles Homeless Count along with sites all across the region. The count, a three-night event organized by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), is an annual event that documents the ongoing need for homeless services throughout Los Angeles County.

We had 30 volunteers turn out to count eight census tracts, which meant full teams for every tract. Many were veterans of previous counts, but we also saw some new folks join us. Our numbers will be combined with the river count, which was done earlier in the day by LAHSA staff.

Sponsoring our own Homeless Count Deployment Site helps ensure that our homeless stakeholders are accurately counted, which makes it easier for Atwater Village to get the services needed to address increasing homelessness.

Official numbers will be available in LAHSA's report later this year.

Free Tree Programs

Want some new shade for your yard or parkway? Does the sidewalk in front of your business have an empty square of dirt?

If you live or own property in the City of LA, you are eligible to receive free trees from City Plants. Learn about their programs here!

Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Road Closure Notice!

The City of Glendale sewer contractor is planning to close Westbound direction of the Chevy Chase Drive between San Fernando Road and City of Glendale boundary starting  February 20, 2018, for a duration of approximately 3 weeks. The detours will be set to direct the drivers around the block and we will do door-to-door outreach to the businesses along the Alger Street between Verdant Street and Goodwin Avenue as well as community centers in the neighborhood.

The contractor will install changeable message boards on  Chevy Chase Drive and San Fernando Road to notify the date and duration of the closure one week ahead of the plan.

Please be advised that the Eastbound direction on Chevy Chase Drive will be open at all times.

Mosquitoes suck!

Global travel and trade have opened doors to invasive mosquitoes. Zika, chikungunya, and dengue epidemics are expanding in the Americas and are a growing threat to Southern California. Our pets are also at risk of being infected with canine heart worm.

That is why the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District's mission is to reduce the populations of mosquitoes to prevent or stop disease outbreaks. But they need your help.
