  JA Career Bound Students 
are Driven to Succeed




On Friday, January 26th, JA Career Bound students traveled to Mercedes-Benz of Pompano, where they met with Mike Lucia, General Manager and other lead members of the team, including sales associates and technicians, who shared information about the careers and training programs. Through JA Career Bound, students have the opportunity to meet with local business leaders and learn about career paths across industries. This program day, sponsored by AutoNation, was focused on the automotive industry. 


 

Then students also visited AutoNation headquarters where company executives, Mike Jackson, CEO;  Tom Conophy,  EVP & Chief Technology Officer; and  Scott Arnold, EVP, Customer Care & Brand Exten sion,  welcomed students and talked about their roles.

More than 200 students, business and community leaders, parents, teachers, and volunteers will witness this generation of entrepreneurs as the top 10 JA Fellows company teams compete for the title of Company of the Year.  

This year 21 high school teams participated in this innovative program, where they start and run real companies, and are inspired students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.  Teams are mentored by local business professionals. Local winners have the chance to compete nationally for scholarships and prizes. One of last year's local teams became the #1 team in the country!

Guests will also have the pleasure to hear from Keyn ote Speaker, Peyton Roberton.  Peyton, the youngest person on 2018 Forbes' 30 Under 30 Science list, is a local inventor who already holds 5 patents!

Life Lessons in the Classroom: 
JA Experience at Lauderhill 6-12

Thank you to Ms. Darlene Wooldridge, owner/physical therapist of  Back to Health for address over 70 ninth through eleventh grade students attending the JA Experience at Lauderhill 6-12 school. Ms. Wooldridge spoke about taking risks and how to prepare. Students had the opportunity to discuss what isks they might need to take to accomplish their goals. 
 
JA Experience at Lauderhill 6-12 is a joint venture between Junior Achievement of South Florida and Lauderhill 6-12, one of the schools under the Broward County Public Schools umbrella. Launched this school year, the school is the first of its kind to re-design high school education to be more relevant, experiential and connected to the real world in order to better prepare our students for work and life.  Students take core subject classes and "mandatory" JA courses in leadership, business and entrepreneurship.
