Dear Saint Rose Families,

Art is alive at Saint Rose Catholic School.  Evidence is found throughout the school. Right now Mrs. Weiner and classroom teachers are putting finishing touches on student created Christmas decorations and ornaments that will be treasured family heirlooms for decades or more.  The middle school is graced with student essays comparing poems with art pieces.  The endangered species of Ohio vividly come to life in the fourth and fifth grade hallway with facts and data students found to go along with their creations.  Endless examples of student work are found in the elementary and preschool hallways.  Traveling up the stairs, past the music room, there is a constant joyful sound of students preparing for their Christmas performances.  Mrs. Fahim has been hard at work preparing our young musicians.  Preschool performances begin next week!  We are all looking forward to the many Christmas musical performances coming our way.
I hope that the spirit of the Advent Season is strong at your home.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

A big THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Huntley and the Pirates Parents Club for the outstanding Faculty and Staff
Appreciation Luncheon.
Thank you to all of the parent volunteers for their time and supplies to make this day possible.  We are very appreciative!

Class Mass for Kindergarten Students on December 17

The fourth Class Mass will be held on Sunday, December 17 at the 9:00 am Mass .  Families with Kindergarten age children are invited to worship together and to gather for a light reception to socialize in the Sacred Heart Center (school cafeteria) following Mass .  This is a wonderful time to strengthen or create bonds of Christian friendship.  This is open to all parishioners and school families.

Please click here to RSVP with the number who will be attending so that pews can be reserved in the front near the Saint Joseph altar and so that food can be provided.   You can also sign up for your family to bring up the Offertory gifts or to be Greeters before Mass .  Alternatively, you may RSVP with your family name and number of attendees by emailing Anne Brahier at [email protected].

The response to the other Class Masses has been very positive.  The Parish/School Relations Subcommittee hopes that many families from the school and parish will attend on December 17 !

Kroger Community Rewards
It is time to print your Kroger Community Rewards balance.  Please send the print-out to the Saint Rose School office to the attention of Alison Ray.  To ensure that we have the most up to date information on file, please also write the name of the St. Rose child/family who should receive the credit for your earnings (if applicable).  The only way we are able to assign the Kroger Community Rewards to a specific Scrip account is by having the Scrip participants print and submit their Kroger Community Rewards donation amount.

Saint Nicholas Visits Saint Rose

Saint Nicholas visited Saint Rose School Wednesday. Father Kidd had the honor of leading Saint Nicholas around to visit many of the students and staff. What a great day!

Middle School PLUUS Groups

Saint Rose Middle School students recently had Christmas Fun PLLUS group contests. The "Minute to Win It" competitors helped to promote cooperation and fun across the three grade levels.  The students had a blast!

Water Bottle Initiative in the School Cafeteria

In an ongoing effort to be mindful of the Pope's encyclical "On Care for Our Common Home" we are slowly making small but, hopefully, significant changes within the school. To this effect, we will discontinue selling disposable water bottles in the cafeteria after the Christmas break. We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle and utilize our filtered water fountains. Paper Dixie Cups will be provided for students that forget their water bottles. We will keep you updated on any additional efforts that we may consider in the future.

Junior Achievement at Saint Rose

Dear St. Rose Parents,

My name is, Aaron Skolmowski, a proud father of St. Rose students (past and present).  For several years now, I have worked as a volunteer educator for Junior Achievement (JA) of Northwest OH.  The mission of Junior Achievement is to teach young people about business, money management and the spirit of entrepreneurial thinking.  Teaching different grade levels at various area schools (including St. Rose), I've come to understand and appreciate the value that Junior Achievement offers to the kids.  I am pleased to say that Dr. Borgelt and faculty would like to offer Junior Achievement to the entire school... every class!  "JA in a Day" is a program where many volunteers come to the school on the same day/time for about 4 hours, and teach a class.  The St. Rose JA in a Day will be held on Friday February 23rd, 2018.

We are looking for roughly 25 volunteers to come to the school and teach a class.  Specific content will be prepared/packaged for you, for easy delivery to the students.  Below are the grade levels and corresponding class topics;

1        JA Our Families
2        JA Our Community
3        JA Our City
4        JA Our Region
5        JA Our Nation

7        JA It's My Business! (digital)
8        JA It's My Future (digital)

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, and ultimately to volunteer and sign up!  Please do so by emailing me at [email protected]

Thank you!

RECYCLING COLLECTION FOR NON-FUNCTIONING CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRANDS AND TATTERED FLAGS

We are three eighth graders at Saint Rose School who are working to put into practice the message of Laudato Si "Care of God's Creation:  Land."   In an effort to reduce the waste in our landfills, we are collecting and will recycle non-functioning Christmas light strands.  The metal inside the strands can be re-used.

We will also collect tattered flags so that they are properly disposed of.   We will be collecting these items from Nov. 26 - Jan. 15 (with the exception of Dec. 23-25).

Items can be placed in a box outside of Door B, the western entrance to the Gym.
Please contribute to loving the earth by recycling these items!  Thank you.

Andrew Turner, Chase Monaghan, Charlie Demzcuk

Middle School Annual Ski/Snowboard Trip
Scheduled for February 1, 2018

The annual Saint Rose middle school ski trip is back. The purpose of the trip is to provide our students with the opportunity to try something new, have some fun and bond as middle school students. We will also connect the trip to our science curriculum.

Students will travel by Blue Lakes Bus for this one day trip. We depart from Saint Rose School at 8:00 am and return around 7 pm. Students need to arrive and be on the bus by 7:45 am. We will head to Mad River Mountain. This is a perfect trip for beginners and more advanced skiers. Lessons are offered free of charge and the staff does a nice job of making sure the kids are ready for the mountain.  All students will be provided a lift ticket, rental, lesson, helmet and lunch. Parents may want to send extra money for snacks during the day as well as a quick stop at a fast food spot on the way back to school. Space is limited to 100 students. Payment is due Friday, January 12.

Saint Rose understands that skiing is not an interest that all of students share. Students that do not attend the trip will participate in fun activities at school.

Cost= $70
