Climbing Training Info This Week

Our council's Climbing and C.O.P.E. committee is cranking up the training for Fall and Spring! Join them this Wednesday, August 16, at 7pm at the Frank Fickett Service Center to hear all about the climbing and C.O.P.E. programs and how you can enable your unit to get out on the rocks or up on the C.O.P.E. course. Winter Camp registration is now open - and Summer Camp 2018 registration opens later this week on August 15! Register now to get the best dates and campsites... because on September 1 we will invite units from Sam Houston Area Council to begin registering since they will not have a council summer camp in 2018. STEM Adventure In September

STEM Adventure Weekend at Lost Pines offers Scouts the chance to earn merit badges from groups of Welding, Electronics, Drafting, Engineering, Astronomy, Robotics, Weather, Environmental Science, and Chess... plus the NOVA Shoot/Launch Award. Saturday night there will be a guest speaker and a Mini Maker Faire! September 22-24 at Lost Pines Scout Reservation. CLICK HERE to register.

Venturing Is Happening (Next Month)

Make plans to attend Venturing is Happening, September 16 at Lost Pines! It's a weekend that's fun for those who are already in Venturing and Sea Scouting... but also a great opportunity to introduce potential new members to our exciting outdoor program. Bring a friend and take part in pistol shooting, tomahawk throwing, stand up paddleboarding, climbing, archery, rifle and shotgun shooting, and more!.

Fall Hornaday Registration Open

One of the best outdoor programs we do each year! Your Scouts can earn conservation-themed merit badges and work towards the prestigious William T. Hornaday Award. October 20-22 at Lost Pines Scout Reservation. CLICK HERE to register. CLICK HERE to learn more about the program.
2018 Philmont Crew Opening

There is an opening for a Provisional or regular Boy Scout/Venturing Crew on our council's 2018 Philmont Contingent. A Provisional Crew consists of small groups of scouts and adults, making up a crew of 12 participants. We will also accept Scouts needing financial assistance to take part. The Philmont Council Contingent departs Austin on June 24, 2018, and returns July 7, 2018. The cost for the Contingent trek is currently estimated to be $1330 per person.

Learn The "Cool" Outdoor Stuff

Want to introduce high adventure activities to your unit, but don't have the skills? Texas Powder Horn participants learn-by-doing with 30+ fun and engaging outdoor activities taught by local experts over two 3-day weekends (September 8-10 and 22-24). Powder Horn provides participants with valuable knowledge and local resources to assist them in bringing challenging and fun outdoor program elements to their units. Powder Horn is for Venturing, Boy Scout, and older youth leaders.

Nominate An Outstanding Volunteer

Nominate a Scouting volunteer who you believe has gone above and beyond to support Scouting across our council for the Silver Beaver Award! This is the highest honor presented to a Scouting volunteer at the local council level. The awards will be presented to the new class of these elite volunteers on March 24, 2018, at the Fickett Center.

Shop Notes

Remember the North American solar eclipse is happening on August 21 and your Scout Shop will have a limited supply of Solar Eclipse 2017 patches available for purchase. CLICK HERE for more information.

We have everything your Boy Scout needs for his next year in Scouting: uniform shirt and pants, belt, socks, cap, t-shirt, handbook, backpack, water bottle, pencils, notebooks, knife, compass, paracord, leather and wood craft kits, and so much more! We now offer khaki uniform shirt size Youth XL in a choice of poplin or micropoly. Remember that we offer sewing services, too! Come by the Scout Shop and our staff will be happy to assist you.
