A Word from David Stockwell
12/29/17
Dear Evangelists,
Amy and I, along with the rest of your COTBE officers, want to wish you a wonderful Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We pray that you are enjoying some rest and "down time" with family.
We are happy to share with you that things are coming together for our times together in February and in June.
Important updates:
February 25, 6:00pm-7:30pm, Birchman Baptist Church: COTBE Worship Celebration
Dr. Bob Pearle of
Birchman Baptist Church has graciously invited COTBE to lead out in a Worship Celebration in their Sunday evening service Feb. 25, 6:00pm-7:30pm. This will be a wonderful time of worship, featuring COTBE music and preaching evangelists, and promoting the Work and the Office of the Evangelist. Please plan to join us this night!
February 26, 9:30am-10:30am - Holiday Inn Irving Convention Center: COTBE Annual Business Meeting
Please join us for our annual business meeting at the
Holiday Inn right next to the Irving Convention Center. If you are planning to stay at the hotel with us, please email
Gary Newman and let him know, so that he may reserve a room for you. Our block of rooms is
priced at $101 per night/double occupancy, plus hotel taxes and fees.
February 26-27 - Empower Evangelism Conference, Irving Convention Center
Please click here to register for the Empower Conference. Registration is free of charge, it is important that you sign up and let them know you are planning to attend.
We are excited about our COTBE Break-Out Sessions on the afternoon of the 26th. Shane Pruitt, the new Evangelism Director for the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, has asked me to speak that afternoon at two identical sessions on Monday the 26th. Our annual Afterglow social event will be held that evening, from 8:45-10:05pm, featuring our talented Music Evangelists. We will also have an exhibit booth on the Convention floor; please bring your brochures and ministry cards and any resources you might wish to share, and help us man the booth on both Monday and Tuesday.
Your presence at both events and at the booth is so very important; this will be a great opportunity for others to meet and hear more about your ministry, and the ministry of Texas Baptist Evangelists. We hope to see you there!
June 8-13,
We are working on some exciting plans for a joint Evangelists' Retreat, with our Texas Evangelists hosting evangelists from across the nation, a Sunday Worship Celebration featuring our Southern Baptist Evangelists, a meet-and-greet with pastors and convention attendees, booth on the exhibit floor, and a host of other great events that we want you to participate in! More to share on the Retreat and Convention Activities soon.
If you are not already a member, please prayerfully consider joining Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists, and participating with us at the national level. We need you! Click here for information on membership requirements. Also, if you are not current on your dues for COTBE, please make your payment as soon as possible by sending a check to Gary Newman at the address below, or via PayPal on through our website link.
Also, please find an encouraging word from our vice-president, Marion Warren, below. We're so thankful for Marion, and his loving ministry of encouragement and exhortation. His words will bless you, as always.

David

A Word from Marion Warren
"LOVE ~ JOY ~ PEACE ~ PATIENCE ~ KINDNESS ~ GOODNESS ~ FAITHFULNESS ~ GENTLENESS ~ SELF- CONTROL. To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace and confess. And then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest."
What can I say to amplify these nine holy characteristic gifts of loving grace? How do WE expound, enlarge, expand or make something perfect more perfect? It is a foolish exercise. No human mind can make them greater nor more magnificent -- neither can WE exaggerate or overstate His consummate, exquisite and flawlessly beautiful present.
Join me in declaring -- "HALLELUJAH TO OUR KING FOR HIS INDESCRIBABLE GIFTS!!"
At the present time, I am praying, studying, writing and doing much pondering and thinking from Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther. Most especially from the lives of the leading characters of Mordecai, plus one I will assume you have not included in any of your sermons or songs. His name is Harbona. He is a slave servant of King Xerxes in Esther 1:10 and 7:9.
You may want to laugh at my mention of his name in connection with Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther and Mordecai. I suppose that would be fair, considering he was a slave, and most likely not a believer in our great God, and therefore with no right to the nine grace gifts aforementioned.
But I challenge you to read the book of Esther and evaluate...especially 1:10 and 7:9. Then, consider the comparison between his response and reactions to and for his king, and our response to our King -- realizing that both Harbona and all of us are slaves to our Kings.
How many days, weeks, months, years do we have left? No matter the great accomplishments of our lives, may we make it our final goal to emulate more fully our King of Glory. The Lamb of God Who has taken away our every sin!
Have a consummate, exquisite, and flawlessly beautiful Christmas in Jesus!
