Greetings!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! At Studio Barre Encinitas, we are BIG on Traditions! Just as we have in years past, we have "adopted" a family in need to share the holiday cheer! Working with the International Relief Teams, we found an opportunity to give some deserving kids a very Merry Holiday!

This year, the family we have been able to adopt year and year again were not in need of the generosity our Studio Barre family loves to provide! After speaking with our representative, it was clear that older teens transitioning out of foster families are sometimes the hardest to get support for! Knowing how important it is to get a good start in adulthood, I felt compelled to make these youth our "family".

How can you help?
It's super easy... by expanding your family through the power of giving.
We have adorned our "giving tree" in the boutique with ornaments representing gifts from the wish lists of each of the young adults and their children in out adopted fam ilies. Tuck, Grab and Give!

Our first young adult IS, is a 21yr old mother of 2. She is supporting her family on her own through the help of the transitional housing program. Before foster care, she grew up in a home of neglect and drug abuse. As a young adult and mother, she also experienced domestic violence. Since joining the program, she has been able to focus on her children and her education. She is very hopeful for their future.
We weren't given names, but we do have first initials, sex and ages...
(Mom, 21/ D, male, 3 yrs./ J, female,7yrs.)

Our Second young adult is Mariah, 20yrs old. Mariah is in extended foster care after being homeless living on the streets. She is working on completing her high school diploma and plans to continue her education at Southwestern College next semester.

Next, we have Tapio, a 19yr old young man, who has been in foster care since infancy. He graduated from high school and is attending full time community college while working a part time job. His goal is to become a social worker so he can give back to other foster youth.

We also have UH, a female, 20 yr old. She is currently in extended foster care living in the transitional housing program. She is working towards completing her high school diploma. She is developing healthy coping skills and improving her self sufficiency. She loves to cook and wants to make her apartment a cozy, comfy home.

Lastly, we have Ray, an 18yr old. He is a former foster youth who came to the IRT looking for employment. After an internship, he was offered employment this summer. He plans to enroll in Auto mechanic school and hopes to get his own place. He wanted to say "thank you" in advance for any gifts he may receive!

If you would like to help provide gifts, please....

  1. Grab an ornament off the giving tree in the boutique, which will have the name (or initial), age, sex, and wish on it.
  2. Please wrap your gift and tape the ornament to the package.
  3. Please return to the studio by Monday, December 18th.

Thank you for giving and making this Holiday Season a cheerful one!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Gillis
