Regarding Tax Cut and Jobs Act
On December 2nd, the Senate passed its version of H.R. 1: Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
The bill is now in the hands of the House and the Senate leadership to reconcile differences in the language and provisions of their respective versions of the bill. They hope to send a final tax bill to the President for his signature later this month.
By all measures, this tax plan stands as a permanent windfall for corporations and wealthy Americans. In stark contrast, low and middle income Americans will be net losers under the plan, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
The result of the bill's transfer of wealth will inflict painful cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act and shred the health care safety net, on which, older adults and vulnerable citizens depend. Whatsmore, the bill is estimated to add $1.5 trillion to our national debt, an unnecessary price tag for Americans to pay for generations to come.

November 1st - December 15th
The open enrollment period for the health insurance marketplace is significantly shorter this year - November 1 to December 15, 2017 (it's normally three months). The Trump Administration has also cut funding for advertising and enrollment assistance. Social workers should share this enrollment information with clients, families, friends and communities to bring awareness to the narrow enrollment window.

Legal Defense Fund Grants
The NASW Legal Defense Fund (LDF) was established in 1972 by the NASW Board of Directors to advance the legal interests of the social work profession. One of the major ways in which this is done is through grants of financial assistance to defray the legal expenses of NASW members engaged in litigation related to the
NASW Code of Ethics, social work principles, and/or standards of social work practice advocated by the association.

Medicare's Newest Quality Reporting Program: MACRA
New practice perspectives, "Preparing for Medicare's Newest Quality Program for Reporting Measures: MACRA": MACRA is CMS' new Quality Payment Program which is replacing PQRS. Beginning in 2019, clinical social workers who are Medicare providers will have three options to participate in MACRA: low volume threshold, virtual groups, and individual or group reporting. In 2018, clinical social workers may participate in MACRA to practice reporting measures, but will not receive credit for doing so.
