Rabbi's Message

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." - Anonymous
"Making history by recognizing history." - Ambassador Dan Gillerman
Wednesday was indeed an historic day. I guess we are shocked when politicians actually make good on their promises. We almost expect them to NOT follow through when we hear them campaign for our votes by telling us what they think we want to hear.
I was only a few yards away when then-candidate Donald Trump made an often repeated promise regarding the US embassy moving to Jerusalem. The nearly twenty thousand people at AIPAC roared with approval. I recall saying to myself that maybe this time it will happen. And here we are!
I am well aware that many (if not most) disagree with this move right now or ever for that matter. I recognize that our enemies have sworn to avenge this move with violence and that scares me. However, when the world around us persistently tries to delegitimize Israel in the market place, in the political arena and on the college campus, this comes as a most welcome shot in the arm. When UNESCO tries to sever ties between the Jewish people and our most sacred Biblical sites and holy places, this validates everything we have been living and sacrificing for all these centuries.
This bold statement is not just about a building moving from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This is about standing up for what is right. This is about correcting a historical injustice. This is about recognizing that Jerusalem is the very heart of our people. Let us hope and pray that this is a step towards a bright and safe future for our beloved State of Israel.
Thank you Mr. President!
