ROAD MAP RECAP: #EDRESULTS NETWORK MEETING

In support of our undocumented youth and their families, the Road Map Project  Community Leadership Team   announced their resolution calling for the Congressional Delegation from Washington State to pass a Clean Dream Act by December 2017.

It is critical that the final piece of legislation passed covers the most undocumented immigrants, has the shortest pathway to citizenship, does not include dangerous law enforcement additions, and promotes family unity.

Washington Dream Coalition organizers led a call to action, asking the entire room to tweet messages to four Washington State Representatives in support of the Clean Dream Act.

Read this letter from Larissa Reza Garcia --- a Community Leadership Team member, Washington Dream Coalition organizer, and Seattle Education Access staffer ---     to learn what you can do to help.

Guest speaker Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib emphasized the importance of college completion for all our students, noting that every child has the ability to succeed.

"It is truly a failure of the imagination," he said, "if we as adults can't find a way to come together in collective impact to create a road map for all our kids."

We also highlighted partners who are doing work rooted in our system-wide racial equity essentials. Take some time to get to know them!

ROAD MAP PROJECT NEWS ROUND UP

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed an executive order creating the Seattle Promise College Tuition Program for Seattle high schools graduates to attend the Seattle Colleges with their first two years of tuition covered.

The average eight-year completion rate for Washington community colleges is 43 percent ---    and Renton Technical College, at 74 percent, had the highest completion rate in the state.

The Federal Way Public Schools graduation rate is up 3 percent from last year. The district's graduation rates have been on the rise for the last five years, and this year is one of the highest in Federal Way's recent history.

While not conclusive, there are early signs that children of color and low-income students are benefiting from Seattle's preschool program

The Road Map Project is a collective impact initiative to improve student achievement from cradle through college and career in seven King County, Washington school districts: Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, (South) Seattle, and Tukwila.

Through multisector collaboration with more than 200 partners and individuals, the Road Map Project aims to eliminate the opportunity and achievement gap impacting students of color and low-income students by increasing equitable policies and practices in education systems by 2020 and for 70 percent of its region's youth to earn a college degree credential by 2030.

The Community Center for Education Results (CCER) is a nonprofit created to staff and support the Road Map Project. CCER works alongside partner organizations and individuals to provide research, communications, strategy and operations support.
