Looking for the experience of a lifetime in Israel? Participate in the BJBE Adult Trip this October. Get all your questions answered at an information session this Tuesday.

We look forward to seeing you at our annual Hanukkah Shabbat Service this Friday with a delicious Hanukkah menu of matzah ball soup, latkes and sufganiyot. Each family will light their hanukkiah, and with the backdrop of flickering Hanukkah lights, we will honor our teachers at the multi-generational service featuring our junior choir.

Mazel tov to the Adult B'nai Mitzvah Class: Heather Gerstein, Eden Lesser, Faith Keidan, Ina Kantor, Marti Greenberg, Gail Gersh and Mark Brodson, who will be called to the Torah this Saturday at 9:30am. This is a joyous moment to be shared by the congregation. We hope to see you there.    
 
JLC winter break begins this Sunday, December 17. Classes resume January 9. 

May each candle of the menorah bring light to your life and fulfill all your wishes.

Upcoming Programs  

Tuesday Symposium: History of the Jewish People, 10:00-11:30am.  The story of the Jewish people, our story, tells the story of the world. By studying the major memories, moments and movements of the Jewish people we can come to know ourselves and envision our future. We will experience the incredible Hall of History in our Jewish Learning Center - 200 feet of murals displaying hundreds of archival, museum quality photos, maps and documents.

H.U.G.S. Hanukkah Party, Wednesday, December 13, 5:00pm - 6:00pm, North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, 1175 Sheridan Rd, Highland Park. Candle lighting, songs, eating, and dancing with DJ Lou. Celebrate Hanukkah and Teacher Appreciation at a special Matzah Ball Shabbat, Friday, December 15. Join us at 5:15pm for delicious matzah soup, challah and latkes, 6:00pm service featuring our junior choir, followed by a holiday oneg with sufganiyot. Please bring your hanukkiah and candles.    

Adult B'nai Mitzvah Service, Saturday, December 16, 9:30am, followed by Kiddush. We invite everyone in the BJBE community to share in this joyous occasion as seven of our adult congregants are called to the Torah.

CRE8 Workshop, Wednesday, January 10, 7:00pm.  Do something fun for yourself after Hanukkah, winter break and New Years at this Sisterhood event. Sunday Adult Education - A Taste of Judaism. ..Judaism is more than just bagels. Join us for three classes on Jewish spirituality, ethics and community. Everyone is welcome: unaffiliated Jews, adult children of interfaith couples, individuals or couples from different faith backgrounds who are interested in learning more about Judaism, partners in interfaith relationships, or synagogue-goers looking to reinvigorate their relationship to Judaism.  9:45am - 11:45am, January 14, led by Cantor Frost.

SERVICES  
Friday, December 15, Matzah Ball Hanukkah Shabbat. Join us for a delicious bowl of matzah ball soup, challah & latkes at 5:15pm, followed by a multi-generational service featuring our Junior Choir at 6:00pm. 

Shabbat mornings feature our  Kol Shabbat Service at 9:30am  followed by  Torah Study at 11:00am.    
 
Wednesday Morning Minyan: Begin your day in a beautiful and powerful way by attending our Wednesday morning Minyan from 6:45am to 7:30am. Each week we pray in the intimate space of the Chapel with a supportive, welcoming group. Experience a prayer service grounded in communal song, thought-provoking liturgy, and deep silence, followed by camaraderie over bagels and coffee. Morning Minyan participants have commented that this worship has connected to their lives in many unexpected and transformative ways. For more information, contact 
Rabbi Fenster. The weekday prayer melodies are available here, although all are welcome to attend regardless of musical or prayerbook knowledge.

DAYTIME AT BJBE  
Monday Canasta/Mahjong: The Sisterhood will host Canasta and Mahjong games weekly at 12:00pm. All are welcome to join in the fun. To participate, RSVP to Sharon Krivitzky and let her know which game you will be playing and if you can bring supplies.

ednesday Morning Minyan:   Our weekday morning Minyan meets from  6:45-7:30am  in the Chapel followed by Talmud Study led by Rabbi Kedar. For more information  contact Rabbi Fenster. The weekday prayer melodies are available here. Note: Minyan will meet December 20, 27 and January 3. There will be no Talmud Study on those days.

Mishkan Shalom, Thursdays, 10:00-11:00am -
Note: Cancelled December 14.  Please join us each week for Mindfulness and Torah study based on weekly text, poetry and other contemplative readings. We all become one another's teachers as we build our own inner "mishkan" or sanctuary. We will learn to practice meditation so we can access how Torah affects our lives. Relax, renew and create space in your week. Come once, come weekly. If you have any questions, please contact Margot Andersen, trained at Institute for Jewish Spirituality.  
SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK  
We are collecting toiletries, hearing aids, glasses, printer cartridges, and batteries, and new kids' hats and gloves. These much-needed items will be donated to Families Helping Families of Chicagoland, and will be distributed to kids in our community.  We are NOT collecting used clothing at this time. Thank you for your generous donations.

PADS Lake County is a community-based organization that provides trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis. 
CARING COMMUNITY 
BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from temple or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, and a virtual food pantry.  To access these services confidentially, please call Gloria Kaiz at 847-945-3741.

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. at 7:00pm to Support Hebrew as a new World Language 109 Administrative Building, 517 Deerfield Road. Present your support for Hebrew as a world language to begin in the fall, 2018 at Shephard and Caruso Middle Schools.  RSVP if attending to Helene Herbstman. If you are unable to attend, please write  Michael Lubelfeld, superintendent, and let him know you support this program.

The Judaica Shop is open 30 minutes prior to and after Friday Night Services, Sundays 9:30 to 11:30am, Wednesdays 4:30 to 6:30pm (during religious school) and by special appointment by calling Lynne at 847-528-1359.
