Business Counts - December 2017
Census Release Highlights

Statistics Canada latest Census release contained data on education, labour and journey to work. Regional highlights as follows:

  • There were 7,210 working age people (25-64 years) with a university degree at bachelor level or above in the Comox Valley in 2016, a 14% increase over 2011. There also was an increase in the distribution of those with bachelors or higher, from 18.6% of the working age to 21.3%. Click here for more.

  • The Health care and social assistance sector took the #1 spot in the distribution of employed labour force aged 15 years and over in 2016 with 14.1%, up from 13.1% in 2011. Retail trade, the previous #1 spot holder, fell from 14.6% in 2011 to 13.6%.in 2016. Click here for more.

  • Mode of transportation used for commuting in the Comox Valley remained relatively unchanged from 2011 to 2016, with the biggest shift being an increase in the share of workers using public transit from 1.8% in 2011 to 2.3% in 2016. There was a slight drop in those who drove their own motor vehicle from 79.8% in 2011 to 79.5% in 2016. Click here for more.
