Dear AFE Members,

Thank you all for making the 7 th International Fire Congress a great success!  We hope you enjoyed the high quality of discourse and the variety of interactive activities as much as we did. Again, we thank all of you for your participation and passion, and thank our sponsors and volunteers for making all aspects of the event possible.

We'd like to bring the two following items to your attention, and request your feedback on both before this Friday, December 15:

1. 2018 Board Nominations
Every year we invite our members to consider running for the Board of Directors.  This year we have a number of positions available.  If you have interest in joining the Board, please submit your CV and a brief letter of interest to [email protected] before December 15 th.  Our Board members are responsible for envisioning the future of the Association and implementing its realization, and often serve in leadership roles on committees.  There are multiple opportunities to promote the application of fire ecology in management and education through AFE, and we'd love to have your perspective at the table.  On a personal level, joining the AFE Board was the best career decision I've ever made, so I strongly encourage all of our members to consider the opportunity.  We hold monthly conference calls, and meet in person once a year.

2. Proposed AFE Bylaws Change
AFE's Board of Directors has proposed a change to the bylaws, Article 4, Section 2 (available at  https://fireecology.org/bylaws). The proposed change would enable officers to serve a 2 year term (rather than the current 1 year term) for no more than three consecutive terms in the same office. Officer elections for Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer would be held in alternate years as the election for President. Changes to the bylaws must be voted upon by our membership. Please click here to cast your vote by December 15.

Thanks again for a fantastic meeting of the minds in Orlando!  We look forward to seeing you in Missoula in May.

Sincerely,

Leda Kobziar, AFE President
