As December 31st approaches, many of you are looking at your charitable giving in terms of tax benefits. Although York Catholic is a school, it is also a non-profit organization that depends on donations to meet its budgetary needs. We ask you to consider YC as a charity of choice for your year-end gifts. We depend on you and your generosity to support the tradition of faith, mind, heart, and family at YC.
The York Catholic Fund supports every student by enriching extra-curricular programs, music and the arts, professional development for teachers, academic program support, athletic programs, technology, special projects, and operating expenditures.
This year, we have a fundraising goal of $300,000 for the York Catholic Fund by June 30, 2018. Every gift, whatever the amount, counts and is truly valued.
Please use the return envelope that was included in your December issue of Greensleeves or click on the We Believe button below to use our secure online donation page. Thank you for caring and giving!

YC Gives Back to the Community |
Giving Tree
The senior high student council is collecting NEW hats, scarves, and mittens for those in need in our community. Items can be placed on the Giving Tree in the lobby at York Catholic until December 20.
Coat Drive
The National Honor Society is collecting gently used coats for their Coat Drive. A box will be in the lobby throughout the month of December until December 20. The coats will be donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.
Toy Drive
Students are currently collecting Christmas presents for the children who are patients at Hershey Medical Center, in remembrance of Jacob Gurrerri. Parents of the children at Hershey will be able to choose some gifts and have them "delivered" on Christmas Eve.
Chris Gurreri, a YC graduate, is coordinating this toy drive in memory of his brother Jacob, who was five-years-old when he died. This is the 12th year anniversary of his death. The Gurreri family was fortunate enough to stay in the Ronald McDonald House during the three weeks that Jacob was being treated at Hershey Medical Center.
The Ronald McDonald House offers the following gift ideas (MUST be new, unwrapped, items in original box):
- Stuffed animals
- Coloring books and crayons/markers
- Books
- Board games
- Children's movies
- Action figures
- Dolls
- Legos
- Christmas stockings with stocking stuffer items
- Blankets
Students are asked to have all toys to their homerooms by the morning of Tuesday, December 19, at 8:15 AM. Thank you for your generosity this holiday season in helping to make Christmas a little brighter for the children who are in the hospital.

During this holiday season, there are two organization that are giving back to YC for every dollar you spend.
If you typically do any of your Christmas shopping online at amazon.com, go to www.smile.amazon.com instead and the Amazon Smile Foundation will donate .5% of eligible AmazonSmile purchases to York Catholic's Student Aid and Endowment Fund. Simply select York Catholic as the recipient of the donation when making your purchase. AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know -- same products, same prices, same service -- with an added benefit for your favorite cause.
Giant's A+ School Rewards program offers schools like York Catholic a unique opportunity to receive a percentage of sales made by YC families, which supports our students' educational experiences directly by providing important funding. Participation in this program does not deduct personal bonus points from your individual Giant card. In fact, it allows you to leverage those hard earned (or spent) points to do good for YC! Please consider registering your bonus card account and be sure to select York Catholic as your beneficiary. You can do so by visiting
https://giantfoodstores.com/school-rewards/
. This is a great way to support YC. Every time you shop at Giant with your bonus card, you will be supporting our students. If you wish to register and would like assistance, please submit your bonus card number to Jennifer at [email protected].
These are two great ways for YC to earn thousands in free money. Thank you for your support!

Notification
During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, WPMT Fox43 TV, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.
Text Option Requires Your Action
In preparation for the colder months ahead, we have updated our "One Call Now" Emergency Notification System. In the event our school schedule is adjusted due to weather, a phone call and an email will be sent to the contact information we have on file.
A text option is also available. If you opted-in to receive text messages last school year, you do not need to do anything additional. If you did not receive text messages last year and would like to, or you are new to our school, you must "opt-in" to receive text notification.
To do so, text the word
ALERT to the number
22300.
Do not include any words other than the word ALERT.
After doing so, you will no longer receive a phone call at that number and will only receive a text message.
If you do not want to receive text notification, you do not have to do anything. Your phone number and email address from our MMS system have automatically been entered into the One Call Now system.

Junior High Christmas Dance |
The Junior High Student Council is hosting a Christmas Dance for all YC junior high students on
Friday, December 8, from 7-9 PM. Guests from other schools are not permitted to attend this dance. The 7th & 8th graders will be entertained by a DJ while they enjoy some food and each other's company. Tomorrow is the last day to purchase a dance ticket in homeroom. The price for the dance is $5 in homeroom, but $7 at the door. Your children can ask their Student Council representatives if they need any more information.

Students in grades K-3 are invited to attend Elf Night on Friday, December 15, from 6-9 PM at York Catholic
. Crafts, movie time, and a snack will be offered by the YC Student Ambassadors. This a great time for parents to finish their last minute preparations for Christmas while their children are having fun in a supervised atmosphere!
Click here for a permission/registration form. All children must be registered with a permission form prior to the event and space is limited. Registration will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Confirmation will be sent once the registration form has been received. To assure we have adequate supervision, walk-ins will not be accepted the night of the event.

Families and friends are invited to join us for Mass on Friday, December 8, at 10:20 AM in the auditorium. This Mass fulfills the Holy Day of Obligation in honor of the Immaculate Conception.
|
The York Catholic community will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on December 14-15 from 9 AM-12 noon at York Catholic. Several priests from the York Deanery will be available to hear confessions. This is a great chance to begin the new year with a "clean slate" spiritually.
