It has been a very busy month. In late November, the North Penn School District (NPSD) honored five individuals who served the North Penn community as school board members. We honored them at the last action meeting with plaques and recognition of their time as school directors. I would be remiss not to mention these men and women once again in this edition of E-Matters for those who did not attend or watch the school board meeting.
On behalf of the NPSD administration I would like to recognize Vincent Sherpinsky , Timothy Kerr, Frank O'Donnell, Josephine Charnock and Patrick McGee Jr. for their long hours spent at meetings, reading through reports and listening to our concerns. And most importantly, thank you for serving every child, every day.
Then, just this week five new members joined the NPSD Board of School Directors. I look forward to working with these men and women and highlighting them in upcoming editions of E-Matters and other school district communications. Welcome and congratulations to Christian Fusco, Jonathan Kassa, Jenna Ott, Tina Stoll and Mark Warren.
And that wasn't all, as that night we also accepted the resignation of board member Suzan Leonard who was elected to a magisterial district judge position in Montgomery County. We wish her much success and thank her for the six years on the school board. Information on how the school board will go about filling this vacancy can be found
here.
I know firsthand that serving on a school board is not easy. School board members are unpaid volunteers who need to make difficult decisions to ensure our students are well educated and that our schools are safe. As state funding tightens and local tax bases fluctuate, the job of school board director has become increasingly challenging.
I invite our community to come to our school board meetings and become involved in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed.D.

Many families wish to show their appreciation to a special teacher, principal or support person who makes a difference in their child's life by offering a small gift during the holiday season. While our staff greatly appreciates these genuine gestures of thanks, please consider giving a gift that keeps giving long after the holidays are over - a donation to the NPSD Educational Foundation.

Although the weather outside has not been so frightful, snow is bound to hit NPSD this winter. During these times, NPSD Superintendent Curt Dietrich is very busy consulting with various school district departments, other school districts and weather outlets to assess conditions and whether school needs to be delayed, dismissed or cancelled. It is not an easy job.
On snowy mornings, Dr. Dietrich (if he sleeps at all) is awake for a conference call before 5 a.m. It is NPSD's hope that school delays and closings will be decided and posted via district communication channels by 5:30 a.m. In some challenging situations, that may not happen but the decision is always made as soon as possible.
It is important to note that district communication channels are always updated first. Thus, in the event of inclement weather tune into North Penn Television (NPTV) on Comcast Cable channel 28 and Verizon FiOS channel 29 for the fastest information concerning delays and closings. You can also download the NPSD mobile app to receive notifications on your mobile phone. The NPSD Mobile App is available for Apple and Android devices. You can also visit our website atwww.npenn.org, "Like" NPSD on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NorthPennSD or follow NPSD on Twitterat www.twitter.com/NPSD.
Local radio and television stations are also notified but NPSD cannot guarantee the timeliness of their posting of the information. The WNPV 1440 AM school closing number for NPSD is 303.
When snow arrives while students are already in school, Dr. Dietrich's job is just as challenging. The same process of information gathering and consulting with others is used. In situations when schools are dismissed early, all of the above-mentioned communication tools are used in addition to using the emergency messenger system. Because of this, it is very important to keep your contact information up to date with your school's office.
For more detailed information about inclement weather notification, turn to your 2017-2018 Activities Calendar.

NP vs. LC Thanksgiving Day Alumni Flag Football Game
|
Thank you to our alumni participants, volunteers and community members who came out to our third annual Thanksgiving Day Alumni Flag Football Game!
The North Penn community kicked off Thanksgiving with a new spin on an old tradition, as the stands at North Penn High School Crawford Stadium were filled with more than 500 bundled-up community members in support of their favorite Knights and Crusaders of the past.
We welcomed back nearly 140 alumni football players from both North Penn and Lansdale Catholic from the class of 1970 all the way to the class of 2017. North Penn Marching Knights Alumni Band members rocked the stands while North Penn Cheerleading Alumni rallied from the sidelines to support our Knights!
Although Lansdale Catholic took home this year's title for the third year in a row with a final score of 47-38, North Penn will be back with a vengeance at next year's Thanksgiving Day Alumni Flag Football Game to take back that trophy! Thank you to all of the volunteers, participants and our community for once again making this event such a huge success and a growing tradition!
