Like me, you may not have all your Christmas shopping done. Here are some gift suggestions that you have not seen advertised on TV.

  1. Give your parents the words, "I love you."
  2. Give your children a full day of your time.
  3. Give an ear to someone who needs a listener.
  4. Give a hand to someone less strong.
  5. Give an old friend an unexpected visit or letter.
  6. Give a former neighbor a telephone call.
  7. Give a kind word to a weary sales clerk.
  8. Give a prayer for peace in the world.
  9. Give more gifts you made; fewer money has bought.
  10. Give the money you save anonymously to someone in need.
  11. Give yourself time to reflect on this holy season.
  12. Give God thanks for sending His Son as the Redeemer of the World.

This Sunday, the third Sunday in Advent, I will be preaching "Disarming Christmas" from John 1: 6-8, 19-28. Prepare your hearts for Christmas with worship. Hope to see you there. Join us later for the Parsonage Open House from 2-5 p.m. The Trains will be running.

Advent Missions Candle
We are keeping a candle burning on the Communion Table for missions during Advent and Christmas. For each dollar donated, the candle will remain lit one hour. Candle donations will support Living Hope High School, Bungoma, Kenya, which was begun by Marilyn Uhl, a WV United Methodist. An $88/month sponsorship gives an orphan an opportunity in the name of Jesus Christ, raising and educating Christian leaders of tomorrow. Let's keep the candle burning during Advent and the 12 days of Christmas. Mark your check or envelope "candle". (www.livinghopehighschool.org) Thanks to your generosity of $387 raised to date, the candle will stay lit until Monday, December 19, 3:00 a.m.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to our December Graduates:
  • Allyson Lawhon, Marshall University, B.A. in English & Secondary Education

Construction Update
This week everyone has pitched in to move chairs into the upstairs classrooms to prepare for Sunday's classes. Phase 2 of the construction process is moving along well, moving electrical wires, plumbing, and other utilities. Projection of demolition of the northern most portion of Byrd Hall is about two weeks. Access to the Sunday School Classrooms will be via the east end of the newly paved parking area and thru the Fellowship Hall. New lights were installed in the Narthex this week as well.
