The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville Elementary School, Winter Garden, FL
"A National Magnet School of Distinction"
Tuesday, August 4, 2020

This is the final week of summer break for our Tigers. If you have a student set to start school on August 10, this week is a perfect time to do some short range and long range planning with your student. Whether your student is in LaunchEd@Home or Face-to-Face, the goals and outcomes for August should be the same: acclimation, organization, establishing routine, and success!

In this last issue for the summer, we have included some important reminders for our Tiger families including device distribution and virtual Meet the Teacher which are both this week. Where it applies, please try to take action as soon as possible. We want all students to get off to a successful on-time start to 2020-2021 with their parents up to speed from day one.

This is pre-planning week for our teachers as they prepare lessons and their classrooms for the start of the new year. Please remember that all students will start school on Monday, August 10 via LaunchEd@Home. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Here are a few tips for your laptop:
  • For the safety of your laptop, students may use a sleeve for their laptop.
  • Students should not place any stickers/decals on their laptop as these may cause damage.
  • You may want to purchase a wireless mouse as some students find this easier to use.
  • All students will need earbuds that plug into the laptop.
Backpack with laptop pockets:
Also, please remember when purchasing backpacks, backpacks with a laptop pocket are always added protection and students should NOT utilize rolling backpacks as these are a safety hazard in our hallways.
Communications

Going forward, electronic communication is going to be extremely important to staying up to date on any changes that may occur at school, especially during the 1st semester. Anytime your phone number or email changes please let the front office know so you continue to receive communication.

Updates to Code of Conduct

Two major updates to the Code of Conduct have occurred this summer.

First, students are required to wear masks while on school campuses.

Second, the OCPS Dress Code has been updated. Earlier this summer, the Orlando Sentinel posted a guest piece by School Board Member, Melissa Byrd.

Ms, Byrd wrote: "After being frustrated with this code for 11 years, I am proud to have a code no longer objectifying our young girls. The board has held two meetings where revisions were made, and the now the final draft will come before the board to be voted on June 23."
Orlando Sentinel (June 16, 2020) - "Good riddance to Orange County dress code that singles out girls" (Commentary)

Below is the draft of the OCPS School Dress Code in the Student Code of Conduct that was voted on June:

Parents, You Can Set Notifications & Alerts in Canvas

Parents, you will want to set up your notifications for Canvas. This is important so you receive notifications about grades, school/classroom announcements and emails.

Notifications are sent as one of four delivery types: notify me right away, daily summary, weekly summary, or don't send. If you change a setting, the change is made immediately to your account.

Notification settings apply to all courses you are observing; you cannot change settings for individual courses.

Computer/Desktop View:
  1. Click the Account link
  2. Then click the Notifications link.

Set Notification Preferences
You can select to view an observed student's name in a notification. Select the Show name of observed students in notifications checkbox.

Each notification is set to a default preference. To change a notification for a contact method, locate the notification and click the icon for your preferred delivery type.

To receive a notification right away, click the check mark icon. These notifications may be delayed by up to one hour in case an instructor makes additional changes, which prevents you from being spammed by multiple notifications in a short amount of time.

To receive a daily notification, click the clock icon.

To receive a weekly notification, click the calendar icon. The date and time of your weekly notifications are posted at the bottom of the notifications page.

If you do not want to receive a notification, click the remove icon.

Notes:
* Each set notification preference will automatically apply to all of your courses. They cannot be set individually. Twitter and SMS notification preferences do not support daily summary or weekly summary options.

** Unregistered contact methods will appear in notification preferences but will not receive notifications until you confirm the registration.
Prepping the Classrooms
Our teachers are working hard to setup their classrooms! We miss you Tigers and can't wait to see you.

Keep Reading Tigers!

Tildenville Tigers, we have some fun books for you! Please stop by the school and pick up the book of your choice. No need to come into the building, just walk up and grab one off of the bench!
One of our Tigers squeezes in some reading time over the summer while waiting for an appointment!
The media center, the heart of our school, is ready to receive our Tigers!
