President's Message

To Our Esteemed NOMA Family and Friends,

I am honored to be able to thank all of you who attended our recent Winter Symposium in Lake Tahoe. Your continued support has resulted in one of the best-attended conferences in our recent history, despite the lack of snow for a ski conference! The feedback we received regarding our speakers was also unprecedented in the level of approval and satisfaction. This is extremely gratifying as we continue to strive to bring you the best speakers and the latest pertinent topics that we can provide. Presentation slides will be up on our website soon at www.nevadaosteopathic.org and CME certificates will be in the mail shortly!

As NOMA continues to strive to bring you the best in quality continuing medical education, I am excited to announce that we also will be evolving our multi-day conferences to include breakout sessions beyond ACLS. We hope to develop programs such as In Depth Osteopathic Skills Review, Therapeutic Injections Workshop, and possibly parallel tracks offering specialty credits.

Again from all of us to all of you, thank you for being part of this exciting chapter in NOMA's ascendancy.

AB 474 Update - Emergency Regulations on Overdose

Reporting Now in Effect

On January 16, 2018, Governor Sandoval certified an Emergency Regulation providing guidance for the reporting of overdoses as required in AB 474.

The Emergency Regulations are effective for 120 days, during which time the Board of Health will develop permanent regulations.

The mandatory reporting of overdoses is only one of the many new prescribing requirements under the new law, which also include:

Providers Will Be Required to Report Cases of Overdose.
Providers Are Required to Obtain Two Units of Continuing Medical Education on the Topic of Misuse and Abuse of Controlled Substances, the Prescribing of Opioids or Addiction.
Providers with Licenses to Prescribe Must Register for and Query the PMP.
To Be Valid, Prescriptions Must Contain the Patient’s Date of Birth, ICD-10 Code, the Fewest Number of Days Necessary to Consume the Medication, and the Prescriber’s Name and DEA License Number.
All Prescribers of Controlled Substances Must Follow New Prescribing Guidelines.
