PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I hope all of our members are off to a good start in 2018. IHLA begins a busy year by hosting numerous events during the next several months. On February 6th, IHLA hosted our first  GM Breakfast Meeting of 2018 with keynote speaker Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin. Commissioner Boykin has been an outspoken critic of Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, especially on her 2017 soda tax that was repealed on December 1, 2017. Commissioner Boykin updated us on several issues facing Cook County in 2018.

On February 20th, IHLA will host the 8th Annual Anniversary & GM Connect Event for our Under 30 Gateway Chapter at the Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile. Hotel General Managers are invited to join our Under 30 Chapter members to hear Wayne Buckingham, SVP of Operations for North America for Accor Hotels, who is scheduled to be our keynote speaker, and to enjoy networking and fun. Click HERE to register.

On February 25-28, the Illinois Governor's Conference on Travel & Tourism will take place at The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago. If you or any of your staff members would like to attend the Governor's Conference to hear the State of the State's Tourism Address as well as other tourism industry speakers and participate in several tourism sessions, click HERE for more information and to register.

On March 15th, IHLA will co-host Hospitality Hires Chicago along with Choose Chicago, Chicago Loop Alliance, Illinois Restaurant Association, and The Magnificent Mile Association at The Palmer House Hilton. This is the second year IHLA is spearheading this hiring event in partnership with the Chicago Cook Workforce Board to help our hotels gear up for our busy season after a long, slow winter. At last year's inaugural event, 26 hotel companies participated in this event that attracted 573 trained and prepared candidates ready to be hired. Hopefully, we will have increased participation this year that will help our hotels hire the employee positions they need to fill. Click HERE for more information and to register.

On April 6th, IHLA will host our Annual Hospitality Gala at Swissotel Chicago. Please plan on joining us for this special 30th anniversary edition of this wonderful hotel industry event. Fantastic food, beverages, music, and decor will make this a memorable and fun evening for everyone who attends. Click HERE for more information and to register.

As a result of a very limited schedule of the Illinois General Assembly during the 2018 election year, IHLA will host our annual Lobby Day on May 15-16 in Springfield. Over 50 IHLA members are expected to help IHLA lobby our state legislators on issues that are critical to our industry in Illinois. The Illinois Restaurant Association and the Illinois Council of Convention and Visitor Bureaus will be joining IHLA's Lobby Day once again to give our hospitality industry a much stronger voice as we meet with legislators representing all parts of the state. Several keynote speakers will address our group, and meetings with the top leaders of the General Assembly will be scheduled. Click HERE to join us for our Lobby Day.

I look forward to seeing our members at all of these upcoming events.

Best regards,

Marc
