The  Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade  and  Director of the San Diego Center for International Trade Development  (CITD), Victor Castillo, was invited by the  CalWORKs  program at Southwestern College to give a workshop on career opportunities in the global trade sector to students participating in the program. CalWorks, which stands for California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids, is a state program that provides cash assistance and services to eligible needy families in California. The CalWORKs Program at Southwestern College provides assistance to TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) participants which include academic, career, personal counseling and employment assistance. 

Market Entry and Tax Stategies: Planning at Home and Abroad

If you are currently doing business internationally or planning to enter a new market, you need to understand the potential tax impact on your business .

Join us at our  "Market Entry and Tax Strategies: Planning At Home and Abroad" workshop, which will be presented by Jo-Renee Hunter, a Los Angeles based CPA and Attorney with extensive experience with international tax transactions. This workshop will cover topics including:
  • Tax Impact of Export Transactions
  • Impact of Entity Selection on U.S. and Foreign Tax Exposure
  • Foreign Sales and Value Added Taxes (VAT)
  • How to Eliminate Double Tax on Foreign Income

Registration for APICS CPIM Certification Preparation Course Closing Soon


The  San Diego CITD and DSN for Global Trade & Logistics (DSNGTL), in collaboration with the San Diego Chapter of APICS, is now offering the updated   APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification courses at Southwestern College's Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa. APICS is a national industry-recognized association for supply management professionals.

The updated CPIM certification learning system consists of two parts and two exams, condensed from the previous five modules and exams. The San Diego CITD and DSNGTL will be offering the  CPIM Part 2: Advanced Supply Chain for Internal Operations (formerly MPR, DSP, SMR, and ECO) course, which is scheduled to start February 21st, 2018 and will run for 13 weeks from 6 PM - 9 PM on Wednesdays.

Cost:

APICS Plus Members: $1,315
APICS Core Members/Non-members: $1,465

Deadline to register is February 16th. Registrations after this date will incur a $50 late registration fee.

Border Export Program


There is a $13 billion supplier's market within the Baja California, Mexico manufacturing industry. The San Diego CITD can help you tap into that market through its Border Export Program.

Handling and Responding to a CBP Request for Information


Join the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the San Diego CITD on February 22nd for a seminar on how to handle and respond to a CBP request for information. 

Topics covered in the seminar include:
  • What is a CBP request and the types of issues covered
  • Why they are issued by the CBP
  • As an importer how to carefully review and evaluate the request
  • The roles of the U.S. Customs Broker
  • CBP expectations and requirements

Save the Date: MEXPORT 2018

Save the date for MEXPORT 2018, which will be held on April 26, 2018.

MEXPORT, organized by the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce, is the premier cross border business expo in the  Cali-Baja  region promoting trade and business opportunities.

This year MEXPORT will include Business-to-Business Executive Sessions between buyers from major manufacturers, service providers, and potential suppliers. These sessions will be included with booth registration.

Asia Pacific Business Outlook Conference 2018

The U.S. Commercial Service and the USC Marshall School of Business have been working together on the Asia Pacific Business Outlook (APBO) since 1988 to help exporters and investors expand their trade and investment in the Asia/Pacific region.

In the aftermath of the U.S. elections, new uncertainties in trade and foreign policies will have an impact on Asia/Pacific business environments. In the upcoming months, as the administration defines its policies, businesses will be able to learn first-hand from the 50 business experts at APBO so they can strategically maneuver their organizations to meet the new challenges and opportunities in the constantly changing economies of Asia.
