Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs)
Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) were established under the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans 60 and over in every local community across the U.S. Most Area Agencies on Aging serve a specific geographic area of several neighboring counties in one state. More specifically a local Area Agency on Aging, coordinates and offers services that help older adults remain in their homes aided by services such as Meals-on-Wheels and referrals to homemaker assistance. Some Area Agencies on Aging offer sliding scale Care Management and other senior service referrals to local non-profits.

Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs)
Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) seek to address the frustrations many older adults, people with disabilities, and family members experience when trying to learn about and access long-term services and supports. ADRCs are an important part of the No Wrong Door (NWD) system model. A collaboration between the Administration for Community Living (ACL), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Veterans Health Administration (VA), all work together to streamline access to long-term services and supports for older adults, people with disabilities, and their families.

Medicare and Medicaid are under The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This group administers Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Health Insurance Marketplace.

One of the most important details that the prepared senior needs to know about Medicare, is that Medicare is basically health insurance and it does not pay for long term assisted living or skilled nursing care.
