Reflection
God provides everything that I require. If only my desire could match the size of my blessing. Curiously, though, for all that I convince myself is “mine,” none of it is. Because God does not give gifts; God only entrusts to me what I have for the time of my being. Like the Wendell Berry quote, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” All that I have, at some point, I must give back to God, or to the next generation. Perhaps this will make me more grateful for the loan, and more watchful of my care.
Prayer
Generous God, who am I that you should entrust such incredible treasure to me? You have bestowed upon me life, friendships, and the church. Help me to be grateful and to become ever more wise in my stewardship, my caretaking of your property. Amen.
