Christmas Devotional
"Worship Fully"

To follow up on what we discussed this past Sunday, what exactly is  worship anyway? Is it what we do on Sunday morning? Is it only that?
Matthew and Luke were the only ones who recorded the Christmas narrative, and only Matthew uses the word  worship in direct reference to Jesus at his birth.
The word Matthew uses for worship in the Christmas story is proskuneó.  I know you're probably just as confused as I am. Here's what that means: Pros = "towards" and Kyneo = "kiss."
Ancient Christians used the word to represent a  'kissing ground' between God and the church (us). The idea actually has even more ancient roots. Old Egyptian relics depict worshipers with arms outstretched to their deities, throwing them kisses (same word " proskuneó").
To WORSHIP FULLY, one thing we can ask ourselves in everything we do this Advent season is this:  Does  this create a "kissing ground" between God and us? In other words, "Does this create a moment of worship?"
Ask yourself that ...
... as you celebrate Jesus in community.
... on a wilderness walk.
... while shopping at the strip mall.
... after turning off the phone for a Saturday with the kids.
... while volunteering.
... in shopping mall parking lot traffic jams.
... while incurring credit card debt.
... while reaching out to someone who gets lonely for the holidays.
... while making a Christmas morning gift as a family to a cause that honors Christ.
Which of these - or anything else we do - creates a  'kissing ground' between God and us?
The ones that do, let's do more of them to WORSHIP FULLY.
Those that cause something else - like anxiety, guilt, frustration, isolation, or despair - let's consider doing less of them.

Current Message Series

Let's be honest, the holidays can be a stressful time of the year. Is this really how it's supposed to be?  Wouldn't it be nice to return to a time when things seemed more simple? Join us as we learn what it means to get rid of the distractions and focus on the real reason for the season.

What went on in heaven before Jesus came to earth? What do you think the angels sounded like when they sang to the shepherds?  We may not know those answers, but we do know that the angels brought the good news of Jesus' birth!

Come and celebrate with the angels!  Our first Li'l RidgeRunner Angel Breakfast will take place in the Hallelujah Hollow room at St. Mark on December 9th at 9am!  This special event costs $5 per child and is for 2- to 6-year-olds and a special guest (a parent, grandparent, or special adult).  We will make crafts, eat an incredible breakfast, and hear the Christmas story.

Let's teach our little ones the true meaning of Christmas!  Space is limited and reservations are required. Please email Mrs. Jami if you would like to attend: jami@theridgecolumbus.com.

If you would like to help serve at this event, please email Mrs. Jami.

Are you interested in being a part of a serving team on Sunday mornings? Here are some of the ways to get plugged in:

*Greeters.  The Greeters Team are the warm hearts and big smiles of The Ridge Church.  Without them, there would be no Golden Donuts, no one telling you good morning and no coffee!

*Parking Lot Party.  The Parking Lot Party has the special task of making sure people find the way to the worship area.  This includes putting out directional signs and welcoming our members and visitors.

*RidgeRunners.  At The Ridge, we have one of the best kids' environments around.  Children of all ages learn about Jesus in a way that is relevant, biblical and engaging.

*Student Ministry.  We do student ministry a bit differently at The Ridge. We have monthly gatherings, monthly worship (3rd Night) and weekly small groups that meet in restaurants across Columbus before school starts.

*Worship.  The worship team is both on stage and offstage.  Everything you see happen on Sunday morning is made possible by this amazing team. Opportunities range from singing to running the lights.

*Setup/Teardown Team. This team is the hands and feet of Christ.  No expert skills needed, just the heart of service that comes from a heart of worship.
