Pop-up library initiative awarded Community Foundation grant
Library is recipient of Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund grant
FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA,  December 6, 2017 - Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) has been awarded $18,000 from the Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund of The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region for its new Library on the Go pop-up library initiative.

The purpose of the pop-up library initiative is to bring educational resources to children, teens, and their families by taking the library out of its brick and mortar buildings and into areas with identified needs: "Too often, those who need the library the most have a hard time getting to us, so if they can't get to the library, we will bring the library to them," states CRRL Youth Services Coordinator Darcie Caswell. Some of the services the project will offer include early literacy classes for preschoolers, exploratory learning stations with STEM activities for grades K-12, book match for struggling readers, and homework help for school-aged children and teens including internet access via a hotspot, and Chromebook laptops with wireless printing.

This grant will help fund the purchase of a vehicle and start-up supplies for the pop-up library initiative which will launch in 2018.

Current Library on the Go initiatives include Belmont Community Center Satellite Library, Lobby Stops, and Grow a Reader and community outreach. CRRL Director Martha Hutzel says, "We are thrilled to add the pop-up library initiative to our Library on the Go offerings and to further our mission of lifelong learning for everyone in our community. This generous grant from The Community Foundation will help us reach our goals much faster."
