Walnut Grove Roadrunner Newsletter December 10, 2017
Shop at Towne Center Books

There is still time to earn money for your child's classroom and support a local business  at the same time!

If you shop at  Towne Center Books  through Tuesday,  December 12th a percentage of your purchase will go directly back to your
child's classroom!

At checkout, just mention that your child attends Walnut Grove and  who their teacher is. It's that simple!  At the end of the promotion, Towne Center Books will kindly donate back a portion of purchases to the classrooms.

Finish off your holiday shopping, or just treat yourself and
your kids to some great books by shopping at Towne Center Books!

National Geographic Bee

Calling all 4th & 5th Graders!!

The National Geographic Bee is going to be held at Walnut Grove for the very first time!  We are also the first elementary school in our district to host this fabulous competition.

This annual event is designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world around us, to learn more about maps, places and landscapes, its people and cultures, flora and fauna or history and economies. National Geographic provides resources to prepare for the Bee by clicking here  . Sample questions and further information will be emailed to all registered students.

The Geographic Bee will take place  on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 4:00pm and is open to all 4th and 5th grade students . Our school champion has the opportunity to take the online qualifying test be considered for advancement to the state Bee.

To register, please follow this link and submit the form by Friday, January 19, 2018.  This event is sponsored by the PTA and is free for all students.

We are also in need of some volunteers to help with this event.  If you would like to help out, please contact Deepta Rao at [email protected] .

Donut Fun for Everyone

Save the Date - Donut Fun for Everyone! will be on Wednesday, February 7, 2018

In previous years, we have had a "Donuts with Dad" event and a "Mornings with Mom" event. For this school year we are doing something different - we are having one, all-inclusive event, for all of the special caregivers in our kids lives. It is called "Donut Fun for Everyone!" It will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 8:15-9:15am. We hope to see you there!

If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Christina Mantha at [email protected].

Walnut Grove Photos Needed

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, we are in need of old photos we can use in a video montage. The pictures can be from anytime within the last 50 years, and can be of the school, students, teachers, or anything relating to Walnut Grove.

All photos can be submitted to [email protected] or if you have hard copy photos, you may place them in the box in the PTA room (which is located in the main office).  All photos should be labeled with a description if applicable, and the names of the people in the photo.   All hard copy photos will be returned, so please be sure to include your name on them.

Please pass this information on to anyone you may know that has been affiliated with Walnut Grove over the last 5 decades.

Yearbook Cover Contest

Calling all 5th Graders!!

The yearbook committee is conducting a yearbook cover contest for all 5th grade students wanting to participate. We are looking for artwork to be drawn for the cover of this year's school yearbook.  The contest will begin now and run through Thursday, December 21st.

This year's submissions should focus Walnut Grove's 50th Anniversary.  Since the cover artwork inspires the yearbook's overall theme, please be sure to submit your brightest, most vividly colorful sample to give the yearbook a bright, bold lead to follow!

To submit artwork, please review this document, but please read carefully as there are very  specific guidelines for the artwork. Once you read the guidelines, you will use this template for your drawing.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Stephanie Schieder.

Fall is here, but we'll find ourselves welcoming the Spring before we know it!  Along with the New Year arrives Walnut Grove PTA's Spring Fundraiser.  2018's Spring plans include a silent auction - and we need you!

If you have anything to donate (items, experiences, talents) or are interested in participating in the incredibly fun auction committee, please contact Erin Arena at [email protected]
