News & Updates from NAMI Franklin County

We hope you are enjoying the holiday season!  Our Thanksgiving holiday was wonderful! We are so grateful for those of you who supported us on #GiivngTuesday!

Like many of you, we're gearing up for 2018. Our first Peer-to-Peer and Family-to-Family groups of the new year start in January.  Due to a wonderful response, we have a desperate need for Ending the Silence Presenters. And, a special thanks to Sun Behavioral Health for holding the first fundraiser in support of NAMIWalks 2018!

All the best,
Rachelle A. Martin, Executive Director

Ending the Silence is a free, 50-minute presentation designed to give students an opportunity to learn about mental health conditions through an informative Power Point and short videos. NAMI Franklin County is in desperate need of Ending the Silence presenters.

Through the presentation, students learn symptoms and indicators of mental illness, and are given ideas about how to help themselves, friends, or family members who may be in need of support.  Additionally, the presentation includes personal testimony from a young adult living with a mental illness about his/her journey to recovery. Stipends and a bonus is included. Click here to download the Ending the Silence Presenter application.  For more information contact Laurita Barber, 614-530-4554.

NAMI Franklin County Board Member Spotlight
"Mental illness is a medical condition people don't like to talk about, however everyone knows someone dealing with it," said NAMI Franklin County Board Member Emiley Griffin.  "I choose to spread this awareness rather than hindering it.  NAMI is the place to start!  Quite frankly, it takes a village to educate others which leads to supporting all in need!" continued Griffin.

The Perfect Holiday?
Ask ten people what they view as the perfect holiday and you'll get ten different answers. We tend to envision a wonderful, joyous, stress - free time with friends and family. We put extra pressure on ourselves to have "perfect" decorations, gifts, dinners, etc. Often, what we imagine doesn't quite turn out as planned. Why? Because nothing is perfect . Read more
