Program High light:
CSF
The California Scholarship Federation, or CSF, is a state-wide organization that honors outstanding high school students for their academic achievement. It began in 1916 in one high school in San Diego County and has grown to over 1,000 chapters. Eligibility for semester membership is based on the previous semester's report card. A total of ten (10) points are required, with points assigned for "A" and "B" letter grades, and the applicability of coursework determined by the state CSF organization (no CSF points are given for PE, repeated courses, TA, office aide, pass/fail courses, or online courses taken when the course is offered on campus).

Palos Verdes High School (PVHS) sophomores, juniors and seniors who meet the requirements shall be eligible for semester membership (based upon their 10th, 11th, 12th grade report cards). Ninth graders who meet CSF requirements are considered associate members using their freshmen report cards. Membership is not automatic. Eligible students must apply for membership during the enrollment period, which will be announced during the first several weeks of the semester. Students are notified of the enrollment period through Daily Bulletin and Edline announcements, "Live From 205" broadcasts, and campus signs. Applications are available in the library and the cousneling office. Membership is for one semester only, and students must apply each semester. Retroactive membership is not allowed. If a student misses the deadline, he or she may not apply later (ref. State CSF bylaws). Summer school courses cannot be applied. Check with the CSF advisor. A student may be disqualified from semester membership if judged an unworthy citizen by the advisor and principal. Grades of "D," "F" and "U" in any subject disqualify a student from membership.

CSF held its annual toy donation drive this week to benefit the Murchison Street Elementary  School in Boyle Heights .  CSF  Members donated several hundred new toys which will be delivered to the school Monday.  Murchison  students will have the opportunity to "buy" toys at their holiday gift shop on Thursday.  The Christmas Store is an annual event at Murchison and provides all students with  an incentive  for sustained  effort and citizenship. During the holiday season students receive Christmas dollars when they are caught doing a good job. All students have the opportunity to visit the Christmas Store and select a toy. For   many  of the Murchison students, the toy they receive  from the Christmas  Store may be the  only one they receive during the holiday  season.  CSF is happy to continue to support this event.  Thank you to all members that donated.

TRITON YEARBOOK GARNERS ALL COLUMBIAN HONORS & GOLD MEDALIST AWARD

On Thanksgiving Day, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association granted a CSPA Gold Medalist award and All-Columbian honors in writing to the Palos Verdes High School Triton Yearbook 2017. This is the first year that the yearbook has been recognized with All-Columbian honors.

From the CSPA critique reviewer, "This is one impressive yearbook and very unusual for a high school publication. It is not easy to produce a volume of this size that still offers a glimpse into all that your community offers. A reader gleans the diversity, the pride, the acceptance and the overall optimism of the school through the photos and the storytelling. It is not easy to blend the desires of the community and the demands of the expectations of competitive publications, but you have done it! Credit to all the work of the people on the spreads. It was a pleasure to read your yearbook!"

Congratulations to the 2017 Triton Yearbook staff and families. Go Sea Kings!

PV swept Pen 87 to 59 with strong finishes by many of our surf team varsity athletes. Our top female finisher was Savannah Scriven who wowed the crowd with her surfing ability in women's longboard. Booster Club

The PVHS Booster Club is proud to support the Academics, Arts and Athletic teams, clubs and groups on campus and could not do it without the membership of our Sea King Community.

In the last month alone, we have funded over $31,000 in projects on our campus, here are a few highlights that your membership has helped bring to our students:

Academics: The PVHS Booster Club was proud to help with funding for the first ever VEX Robotics Competition on our campus that took place the first weekend of December.  Additionally, as we get into the stresses of ending the year and starting a new one fresh, Booster Club is happy to announce the commitment of new resources purchased to support our PVHS Mindfulness efforts.

Arts:  The Art Patio and Room 202 are getting an upgrade!  The purchase of a new Shed/Shade along with hardware will organize the outdoor area and create an outdoor work area.  In addition, a new wall mounting system will be hung to rotate (our very talented) student artwork in the library.

Athletics:  Our beautiful new Sea King field will be getting two new soccer goals that are built specifically to fit the new turf.  New banners for our baseball field have been ordered and new covers for our esteemed Track and Field high jump and pole vault pits will be purchased and installed.

The above is just a few of the appropriations that the Booster Club has approved for December.  Thank you for your support of the PVHS Booster Club.  If you would like to become a member or get more information please go to pvboosterclub.com or follow us on Facebook @PVBoosterClub and Twitter @pvhsbooster
