Letter from the President
Another year has zoomed by and we are closing out this year with our annual Holiday Party coming up on the 16th of December. It is always a lot of fun to get together with our fellow glass artists and share in the holiday spirit.
This year saw the AGASC go on a bus trip to Palm Springs and we had our annual members' exhibition and new gift boutique. The Glass Guild also had their two patio shows and sales.
The board is planning for the elections of officers, (President and Treasurer). Watch your email for more information.
Our first general meeting for next year will be held on Sunday, January 21st at Pat Warren's new studio from 3-5pm. It is an important meeting where we make up our committees that decide the next year's activities. So, be sure and make this meeting, if at all possible. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
Tis the season for glass,
Jack Wade
President AGASC

Glass Quest
by Leslie Perlis
Last May I was invited to be a presenter at Glass Quest. It was organized by Randy & Carole Wardell of Wardell Publications and McMow Art Glass. It was held in West Palm Beach, Florida. The purpose was to discuss the issues going on in our national glass community, with the EPA changes that Bullseye and other glass manufacturers are dealing with. This included the changing of hands of Uroboros and Spectrum Glass. We also discussed ways to energize our creative side with Power Point and hands on experiences. New products were introduced, like the "Glass Tatoo Stencils"
method produced by Wardell Publications. The vitrograph kiln pull participation on Sunday morning was sponsored by Jen Ken Kilns. It was very exciting as many attendees had never worked with hot glass before. Everyone including attendees, presenters, and organizers left with a feeling of excitement and inspiration about getting back to their studios and putting their new ideas and technical knowledge into practice.

AGASC 36th Annual Members' Exhibition
and Glass Boutique
The art glass exhibit was wonderful this year. The quality of the artwork that was submitted by members was exceptional and we received many complements from viewers that the presentation of the show was one of the best ever. There were fewer entries than previous years so we were able to display them with generous space given to each piece.
Our judges, all artists from Allied Craftsman of San Diego, chose well and we had lots of new members receiving awards. Kathleen Mitchell made quite a sweep including Best of Show for her piece "
Prey
". JonSimpson won 1st place in CBS for his spectacular piece "
Jupiter 2
". New member,
Ty Creighton
received 1st place in Novice for his piece "
California Gray #1
". There were notable new techniques this year - Rosemary Stark's piece "Gratitude Garden" featuring natural and glass succulents. Also,
Mark Title
with his glass and metal gears won 2nd place in the Novice category, for his piece titled "
Then and Now". Kathleen's taxidermy rat was amazing! and Dennis Wharton's "A Tear for my Angel" demonstrated superb polishing and won 3rd place in the Novice category.
The Boutique was a new opportunity for members bringing in sales for everyone. We will be adding the boutique to future shows so keep that in mind for next year. It was a wonderful opportunity for artists to sell less expensive items that may not be in the main gallery.
I want to thank every one who participated in the show and all the volunteers who help with the production of this show, it takes a village to put the annual show together and I am so thankful for all the help. The raffle items were donated by last year winners and contributes generously our the show profits. Bob Hirsch did a great job of negotiating with the wedding coordinator who shared the Spanish Village Patio for our reception, and coordinated all the advertising for the show. He and Cathy Coverley worked diligently, getting great donations for the prizes for the ribbon winners. Jack Wade, Jon Simpson, Kathleen Mitchell, Susan Hirsch, Devora Safran, and many more added so much assistance to this show's success.
The reception food was catered by Lotus Thai who did a wonderful job. Five pieces were purchased from the main Gallery Show and many more from the Boutique. Along with that and the raffle take I am happy to say we covered all our expenses and added a little to our educational budget.
I applaud all of our participants!
Show Chair,
Gayle Tunney Richardson
