Class Notes

After graduating from St. Francis DeSales in the Class of 2016, Jenna Nie joined the Ohio National Guard.  She chose not to start college in the fall in order to complete her Basic Training and AIT (Advanced Individual Training), both of which were at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. She graduated military training with honors and entered the University of Toledo in the spring semester of 2017 to study nursing.  Three weeks into her college career she got word that her unit was deploying to Iraq.  She left college, went back to Fort Sill, and completed three months of mission training before shipping out to her base in Iraq.  She is proudly serving our country by manning weapon systems that protect her base from incoming air threats.  She has been promoted twice already and is currently a Specialist.  She has also received a commendation for exemplary performance from her superiors.  She will complete her deployment in April of 2018 and plans to return to college to study nursing.

San Diego Charger quarterback and former Ohio State Buckeye Cardale Jones honored the nonprofit organization Fallen 15 as part of "My Cause, My Cleats."
The name of SFD alumnus LCPL Ryan Miller '03 is one of 15 fallen soldiers displayed on Jones' cleats.

Thank you to all the alumni who spent their evening with our students at the Engineering Symposium (Alumni Professions Night), sharing their career and educational experiences!

Experienced Plumber for Eco-Friendly Solution

The Environmental Club is seeking a community member who is a qualified plumber willing to donate their time to measure and install new eco-friendly water fountains in the school.

The DeSales Environmental Club earned a grant from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Kroger to replace outdated water fountains with Elkay refillable bottle filling stations. We would greatly appreciate help with installation. Please contact Environmental Club Advisor Mrs. Danielle Polemeni at polemeni@desales.co for more information about this project.
Become a Mentor

Alumni have a unique opportunity to give back to the St. Francis DeSales community, specifically to our junior and senior students, through the SFD Career Awareness/Mentorship program.

Being professional in your career, we are asking you to share your skills, profession, and time with our students. You may want to be a guest speaker sharing resume tips, or if your career involves interviewing, you could explain strategies during the interviewing process. Your profession may lend itself to having a student shadow you throughout the year. The opportunities are endless. Perhaps you have another idea that would help our students on their journey in developing and using God's gifts to the best of their ability.

Please contact SFD Guidance Counselor  Mr. Dan Rotella at drotella@cdeducation.org or 614-267-7808, ext 232 if you are interested in this opportunity or would like more information.  Thank you in advance for your time and support.
