A PEEK INTO THE CLASSROOM
From Mrs. Workman: The Kindergarten is looking forward to our regatta at the end of the year. The children love to work with wood and, at this time of the year, when they are budding with new energy and looking forward to the Summer water play, it is a great artistic project.
From Mr. von Moritz: The Seventh Grade has been busily working on “Rounding the Cape of Storms,” a play that takes us back to the time of Portuguese exploration and circumnavigation of the African continent. Augmenting this topic, we also examined the geographical aspects of Africa and South America, as well as Renaissance recorder music and a South African hymn which eventually became the South African national anthem. The overwhelmingly rich landscape of the 7th grade curriculum also afforded us to get acquainted with Martin Luther, the rebellious monk and one of the titans of the German language, who dared to openly and successfully challenge the Catholic Church and some of its practices. Order and harmony were restored when we, again and again, constructed geometric forms based on the “Golden Section,” one of the principles applied by all well-known Renaissance artists.
