About 40 families attended the hands-on, interactive event.

Participants worked their way through several STEM activities, allowing for  the families and students to think critically about solving each station's challenges. The stations included: building model cars out of Popsicle sticks and straws, making butterflies by mixing dye in water and putting paper plates in them, and making a play cannon by cutting out the bottom of a Styrofoam cup and attaching a balloon to the bottom.

Winter break is a great opportunity to spend time with the people we care about. Here are some ideas to fill your winter break!
  • Volunteer together as a family. Look for volunteer opportunities in your community and get your friends and family members involved in helping others.
  • Create a holiday tradition. Host a family meeting in which each member contributes their ideas. Find a tradition that is unique to your family.
  • Host a game night. Grab some friends and a board game and spend time without using cell phones/social media/television.
  • Look up different activities in your community including tree lighting ceremonies, craft fairs, etc. These two websites include upcoming activities and events.

FCEA & FCUSD Joint Negotiations Update: Nov. 30, 2017
Bargaining team members from FCUSD and the Folsom Cordova Education Association (FCEA), which represents about 1,200 teachers, counselors, and other certificated staff throughout the District, met for a regularly scheduled session on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The session was a productive and collaborative gathering as both sides continued to work together on items of mutual interest. Below is a short recap of major items covered:

Discussion - Early Notice of Retirement Incentive: Last year, 22 FCEA members took advantage of the early notice incentive. Giving early notice provides additional help to Human Resources when planning for the following school years' staffing needs (and is not the same as an early retirement). This year, early notification is due on Jan. 19, 2018 to receive the one-time $1,500 incentive.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU): Bargaining teams drafted an MOU for Board of Education approval that would allow five (5) days of bereavement leave if travel is out of state.

Job Descriptions: Bargaining team subcommittees have drafted job descriptions for Board approval:
  • Middle School Activities Director
  • Middle School Athletic Director
  • High School Activities Director
  • High School Athletic Director

Hiring Timeline: Teams are working together on a hiring timeline for the 2018-19 school year.

Subcommittee on Professional Development: This bargaining subcommittee reported progress toward updating contract language on advancement credits and the coursework approval process.

This update and more will be posted during bargaining at www.fcusd.org/negotiations .
