SBE Mentor Program
SBE Mentor Program
The SBE Mentor Program is designed to help broadcast engineers who are new to the field. The program partners a new engineer with a more-seasoned professional who shares his or her gained knowledge, both empirical and practical with someone new to the field. For the seasoned mentor, it is a chance to give something back. For the mentee, it is an ideal way to gain inside knowledge and understanding that can sometimes take years to accumulate.

Mentors and mentees are paired to work together for one year. They can establish a schedule that works best for them, but the SBE suggests that they connect by phone at least once every two weeks.

For more information, visit the Mentor Program page at the SBE website. To be a mentor or a mentee, complete the registration form at the SBE website.

SBE MemberPlus Available January 2
SBE MemberPlus
The rollout of SBE MemberPlus begins January 2, 2018. This new membership option provides significant additional educational benefits for the member who chooses it at renewal time, or when joining the SBE. It has a higher cost, but the value in return will be well worth it to anyone who wants to take advantage of the many webinars the SBE has available.

Traditional membership, with relatively low dues, is still available and there has been no change to the benefits it affords, including The Signal newsletter and e-publications - SBE-News, Alerts, Updates and SBE Career Advancement Newsletter. Also included are SBE social media outlets, SBE JobsOnline, SBE Compensation Survey results and access to group life insurance, all at no additional cost. Traditional membership also provides members with discounts for SBE certification, education programs and purchases at the SBE Bookstore. The cost of traditional Regular, Senior and Associate membership will be $85 beginning January 2.

The SBE MemberPlus option, for $175 per year, will provide each member with unlimited access to the entire archived catalogue of SBE webinars, plus, all new webinars produced during the membership year. When the SBE MemberPlus option becomes available on January 2, there will be 61 archived webinars available, including the popular eight-part SBE RF101 series, the five-part Fundamentals of IT Networking series, both released earlier this year, and many more.

To recap, for an additional cost that is less than the price of two SBE webinars, those who choose the SBE MemberPlus option will have access to a wide variety of broadcast technical, regulatory and safety educational topics for the entire membership year. Many of which can be used for SBE recertification credit.

Details about SBE MemberPlus are available at the SBE website, including a Q&A section. For more information, please email SBE Executive Director John Poray at the national office or call him at 317 846-9000.
