"Hey Freddy, are you going to use your super-powers for good?"

Freddy is one of a kind. He's never late, and he's never without an opinion! Our teachers ask, "are you going to use your super-powers for good, or for evil?" and he assures us that he'll be EVIL, black mask and all.

But his smile, once he picks up his violin and starts to play, gives him away. Playing in the orchestra gives him joy, shows him his own capability, and helps him dream of big things to come.

Freddy's mom tells us all the time: music gives him not only joy, but a sense of purpose. Fresh determination when he attacks his homework. Confidence in trying new things. She also worries about the things she sees in their neighborhood, and is glad to know that the orchestra is his home base after school.

We love it when Freddy's mom brings his two little sisters to pickup. Melany's preschool has our Music for the Very Young program, and his littlest sister, Ysabel, gets to go to the museum for our Trenton Makes - WORDS!, where Miss Kelsey brings music to the fun of learning new words, both English and Spanish.

Freddy knows, every time he plays his violin, that he is important to his community - and his sisters. He's using his super-powers for good, right now. Will you help those powers take him to high school, and aim for the moon?

With gratitude,
Carol Burden
