H-F FYI - Nov. 8, 2017

Fine Arts Facility Expansion Meetings

District 233 is entering the next exciting phase of its Long Range Facilities & Maintenance Plan, a plan that ensures as H-F's curriculum evolves and as technology continues to influence teaching and learning, the school's facilities can meet the expectations and needs of future students. This phase of the plan may involve the creation of additional Fine Arts classrooms and performance space, as well as the renovation of current Fine Arts spaces. Nearly 1,000 H-F students (one out of three students) are currently enrolled in a Fine Arts class, and the numbers have been increasing steadily the past several years. The district has been carefully saving funds for this project for this growing department, and it anticipates being able to fully fund this project with capital project dollars with no additional tax burden placed upon the community. H-F invites you to learn more at an upcoming community meeting:
  • Wednesday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. in South Building Cafeteria (Fine Arts parents)
  • Thursday, Nov. 9, 9 a.m. in South Building TLC (general community)
  • Thursday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. in South Building Cafeteria (general community)
THERE'S STILL TIME TO TAKE OUR ONLINE SURVEY!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Last Tuesday, Oct. 31, more than 20 freshmen & sophomores had a taste of college through H-F's Early College Awareness Program as they took a tour of Lewis University in Romeoville. The students learned the basics of college life, toured the campus - including the university's aviation department (above) - and enjoyed lunch.

Also that day, students from Mr. McCarthy's IB Physics class visited Fermilab in Batavia, dressed as Schrodinger's equation for Halloween. Their tour included a visit with Fermilab physicist Dr. Thomas Junk, H-F alumnus from the Class of 1984. The students' enthusiasm (and costumes) was even noticed by Dr. France Cordova, director of the National Science Foundation, who was also at Fermilab that day; she featured the students in a recent Field Notes from the NSF Director  blogpost
