Small Business Advisory Council

During a recent walking tour of Pike/Pine in Capitol Hill, Mayor Jenny Durkan signed an Executive Order establishing Seattle's first Small Business Advisory Council (SBAC). Several chamber board members and neighborhood business owners were present at the signing which took place at Elliott Bay Book Company.  A warm congratulations to Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce Board Member Tracy Taylor, General Manager at Elliott Bay Book Company, who was appointed co-chair to the SBAC!

According to the Office of the Mayor, the SBAC will be "Tasked with ensuring small businesses have a role in informing policies and programs as well as access to resources, the council will provide input on impact of City decisions, make policy recommendations, and help increase access to tools and resources available to small businesses."  MORE INFO

2018 Labor Standards Update

Changes to Minimum Wage & Paid Sick and Safe Time take effect on January 1, 2018

The increase to minimum wage reflects inflation adjustments and annual increases required by the Minimum Wage ordinance. The expanded Paid Sick and Safe Time requirements reflect changes required by voter-passed, Washington Initiative 1433 (I-1433). Under I-1433, all hourly employees working in Seattle and throughout Washington automatically have a right to paid sick leave.

Under legislation proposed by OLS, the I-1433 requirements will also apply equally to hourly and overtime exempt employees (with a few limited exceptions). MORE INFO
