Anne Miller Daniel died on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Greenville. She was married to The Right Reverend Clifton Daniel, III, Interim Dean of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York City. Born September 5, 1953 in Ahoskie, Anne was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Armstrong Miller and William Joseph Miller.

Anne graduated from St. Mary's Junior College, Raleigh, Class of 1973, and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Class of 1976, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Anne was presented by the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh in 1972. She married Clifton Daniel, Rector of her home parish, St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ahoskie, on August 19, 1978. The young couple moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1980 where he became Associate Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Oakwood. Anne was a member of the Junior League of Dayton and served on the Advisory Board of The Friends of the Dayton Ballet. After moving to Bristol, Rhode Island in 1984 where her husband was called to serve as Rector of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and Canon of the Diocese of Rhode Island, Anne became a docent at Brown University's Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology and a docent at Blithewold Mansion and Gardens. She also sang in the choir at St. Michael's Church. In 1996, Anne moved to Greenville with her family when her husband was elected Bishop Coadjutor of The Diocese of East Carolina.

She enrolled at East Carolina University where she received her B.S.R.N. in 2001 and was awarded the President's Award for outstanding scholarship and leadership. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and was a licensed registered nurse in the State of North Carolina. Regarded among her peers as a strong patient advocate, she strove to convey her deep sense of empathy, caring and respect to her patients and those in need. She believed that the most vulnerable of humankind should be upheld in heart and mind with the utmost and gentlest regard. Anne was also a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.

Throughout her life, Anne had a keen reverence and respect for the environment, especially the mountains and ocean from which she drew much inspiration. She took particular enjoyment from gardening and from music of many genres. She was an avid reader with a partiality for eighteenth and nineteenth century English literature. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Greenville. Anne offered herself to ministry in a variety of ways, and was known for the letters she wrote to share in either joy or sorrows of friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who embodied a playful and nurturing spirit. Her happiest moments were those in which she and her husband were gathered with their children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren - moments filled with laughter, reminiscing, music, and commentary on literature, film and music.

Anne is survived by her husband, The Right Reverend Clifton Daniel III, and their three daughters, Margaret Daniel Pickron, and husband, Norman, of Brooklyn, New York; Elizabeth Daniel Zajac, and husband, Jared, of New York, New York; and Charlotte Daniel Coletti, and husband, Michael, also of New York, New York. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Claire Lancaster Pickron, Gray Adams Pickron, William Campbell Zajac, and George Henry Zajac, all of New York.

She is also survived by her two sisters, Barbara Miller O'Herron, and husband Kennedy, of Raleigh; and Constance Miller Mehta, and husband Kiran, of Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's in Greenville. Guests are invited to join the family immediately following the service for a reception in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Episcopal Relief and Development or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

Please keep the Daniel family in your prayers through this difficult time.
