Greetings!
Its open enrollment season and many employers are facing plan changes and premium increases for their group's fourth quarter health insurance. Here is a quick breakdown to help navigate the system.
For Medicare eligible, the Medicare Annual election Period (AEP) started October 15 and ends December 7. In this period you can enroll or change your Medicare Advantage (MA) or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (MAPD). This is also the period you can enroll in, change or disenroll from a Part D plan (PDP). You may also switch to Original Medicare. New coverage will begin January 1, 2018.
The 2018 Open Enrollment Period (OEP) for Individual and Family Plan (IFP) coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is now in progress.
The nationwide 2018 OEP (for coverage effective 1/1/2018) lasts 45 days: November 1 to December 15.
Covered California's OEP (on exchange) runs November 1, 2017 through January 31, 2018.
The ACA mandate is still the law, those who do not comply by having minimum essential coverage in 2018 could face fines.
Next year, Anthem Blue Cross will only offer Individual and Family Plans in three regions of Northern California and impacted customers will need to choose new plans for 2018
Comparison quoting (comparing options both IN and OUT of the exchange) is available. Some carriers have relaxed their participation guidelines making it easier to qualify for group benefits and COBRA and HR support is available.

the running to bring a 10 -12 week live music series to Escondido starting next year!
Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, Escondido now has the chance to qualify as one of 15 winning organizations competing in the 2017 Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards.
The park, an absolutely beautiful, but overlooked and underused gem in Escondido would be revitalized as a place for the
community to gather and socialize. Community Programs Manager, Stephany Farley, commented that "This is a huge opportunity
for our community. Since Levitt began granting these awards in 2015, no City in California has been chosen to receive one. We
hope that Escondido will be the first!"
We are asked to turn to friends and supporters
#Escondido and the California Center for the Arts to cast an online vote which started November 1st, to support this effort. We need community participation to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series to town. Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received,
will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners.

California is a great state with a rich diversity of native wildlife. In the mid-1980's, I took Project Wildlife training as a native songbird rehabilitator, and have rescued many orphaned baby birds or injured adults through the decades.
This session my AB 1031, signed into law, creates the Native California Wildlife Rehabilitation Fund setting up voluntary tax return checkoffs providing resources to non-profits who rehab injured, orphaned or sick native wildlife.
So who do you call if you find or notice an injured or sick wild animal? Depending on the situation, its best to not touch them until given instruction. In the case of baby birds, parents are most likely watching or an animal might be highly stressed or disease-ridden.

As one of the most biologically diverse areas in the country, we are fortunate to have a number of wildlife rehabilitation organizations. In North San Diego, the Escondido campus of the SD Humane Society, recently merged with Project Wildlife and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), cares for pets and injured or sick wildlife. In Ramona, The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center focuses on the rehabilitation of predators, including bobcats, coyotes and hawks. The Center rehabilitates over 500 animals each year, releasing them back to the wild when possible. Sunshine Haven in Riverside also rescues wildlife, including native reptiles.
These outstanding local organizations are mainly staffed by volunteers dedicated to nurturing native wildlife in this region. They add an appreciation for our distinct wildlife and help them to survive. If you have time, you may consider volunteering and getting to know more about your backyard friends!
