How Interfaith Solidarity Can Help Defeat the Evil of Terrorism
Interfaith Solidarity Can Help Defeat the Evil of Terrorism

"'One Nation Under God' is not an empty phrase.
Taken to heart, it elevates us to that place of God above us. We look down upon our violent aggressions with regret. The distance from our neighbor shrinks. We've opened to a love we didn't know we could feel."
- Imam Feisal
Dear Friends,

Last week, the country was shaken by a terror attack in New York City that left eight people dead and several more injured. It was the city's first terror attack since September 11, 2001. As we mourn for those who died and support those who now have a long road to recovery from trauma - both physical and emotional -I find my thoughts turning to what it means to be an American.

The United States is a diverse nation comprised of so many different groups and peoples: faith communities, ethnic communities, cultures, and more... But, despite these differences, we are united as a national family by our country's founding principles. And, at a time when so many forces wish to divide us - to set us at odds with one another - I believe that solidarity is more important than ever.

I explore this issue in an op-ed in the New York Daily News. I invite you to read this piece and begin a discussion about how we can come together as Americans and as people of faith.

With Warm Salaams,

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf
