Prayers of the People
Dear God, we pray
for those known only to you within our community who are challenged by a serious illness. And for those known to us who are ill or recovering:
Dave Martin; Tilly's grandson, Rob Close; Ed; Jill; Teresa's sister Vivian; Judith Moore; Dottie Hall Swinehart; Helene Gray; and f
or others known to us.
We commend to your mercy all who have died, especially for
those who have lost their lives to fire in Greece and California, and from flooding in Laos.
Holy Day - August 6 - The Transfiguration of our Lord
It is not to be understood only as a spiritual experience of Jesus. It is one of a series of supernatural manifestations by which God authenticated Jesus as his Son.
The feast of the transfiguration is held in highest esteem by the Eastern churches. The figure of the transfigured Christ is regarded as a foreshadowing of the resurrection.
Let us pray:
O God, you revealed to your chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured. Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from this world, may behold the king in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever. Amen
Exodus 34: 29-35
Psalm 99
Peter II 1: 13-21
Luke 9: 28-36
