"Advent's intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emotional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child."

Thank you to all for your generosity in sending in toys for our annual Santa's Ride. This is in cooperation with the Fairfax County Police, who will collect the toys on December 11. These will then be donated to the children's wards of local hospitals. This will certainly make their Christmas!

In the Wednesday folders today, you will find a collection box for Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem. Similar to the Rice Bowls, we ask that you consider collecting / giving a donation to this hospital that helps many of the needy in Bethlehem. We will collect these after the Christmas break. These boxes will be given to the oldest in each family.

Our annual Three Kings Shop is just around the corner! The schedule has been set and the shop will be open to our students on December 13-15. Thank you to all of our generous parents and parishioners who have already donated many items for this. If you have any items that you would like to donate please drop them off in the school office and thank you in advance.

Our Christmas concert will be held on Thursday, December 14 in the afternoon, from 1:00-3:00 pm. I hope to see you there!

Have a blessed week.

Prayer for Advent:
God of power and mercy, open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy, so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Why Is Hand Washing So Important?

Children do not always listen when parents tell them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing.

But it is a message worth repeating - hand washing is by far the best way to keep children from getting sick  and prevent the spread of germs.

How Do Germs Spread?

Germs can spread many ways, including:
  • touching dirty hands
  • changing dirty diapers
  • through contaminated water and food
  • through droplets in the air released during a cough or sneeze
  • on contaminated surfaces
  • through contact with a sick person's body fluids
When children come into contact with germs, they can become infected just by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. And once they are infected, it is usually just a matter of time before the whole family comes down with the same illness.

How Do Clean Hands Help Health?

Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses - from the common cold to more serious infections, such as meningitis, bronchiolitis, the flu, hepatitis A, and many types of diarrhea.

Shout Outs!
Shout out to the 2nd Grade families for a wonderful Confirmation Reception!  The Confirmandi and their families appreciate your kindness and generosity!
A great big Christmas season THANK YOU to Sarah Moran, our PTO President, for her diligent, behind the scenes work!  Without her generous contribution of time and effort, our school events, projects, and communications would not run so smoothly.  She embodies the spirit of St. Ambrose School and we are blessed to have her at the helm.
