We've been out and about recently and over a dozen chapter members headed up to Cherokee, North Carolina for our fall trip.
WOW - everywhere we went there were plenty of trout - rainbows, browns and brookies. The weather was spectacular and the meals were great too. Next big trip is our summer adventure to the beautiful South Holston River in Tennessee. You won't want to miss it!
This time of year we'll be fishing mostly delayed harvest streams across North Georgia. Be sure to obey posted regulations for catch and release. If you do catch a 'whopper' send a photo to
[email protected] and we'll post it in the Backcasts Section of our monthly Newsline.
Just a reminder that we will not be holding chapter meetings in November and December. But, we will be back up and running in January. Mark down Tuesday, January 23 for our first meeting of 2018.
Enjoy a safe and memorable Thanksgiving.

Fall Chapter Trip to Cherokee - FANTASTIC!!!
|
Our fall fishing trip to Cherokee, North Carolina from November 2 - 5 was incredible. Those who went experienced stocked streams with lots of hungry trout. Memories were made too as some members caught trophy size fish on Raven Fork's famed trophy section. See the Backcasts photo section for pictures of some of the fish caught.

Discount Code for Rivers Edge Outfitters
|
Our speaker in September, Joey Walraven of
Rivers Edge Outfitters in Cherokee NC, gave a great presentation on the euro-nymphing technique of fly fishing. Several members tried out "successfully" this technique on our fall trip. The shop is still offering our members a 10% discount on all purchases, including guide trips! This discount is good through the end of the year.
use promo code UCCTU at checkout.

Sale Table in January
|
The Sale Table introduced at the September meeting was a big hit with members. Gear donated by a former chapter member sold quickly and helped raise money to fund our many chapter activities.
If you have an extra rod, reel, vest or other item that you'd like to donate, put it on the table (in January) with a price tag for the amount you'd like to see it sell for. All monies generated from the sales will go into our general chapter fund for educational and conservation activities.
Clean out your fishing
supplies over the holidays.

RHS Fishing Club Update
|
Through a generous UCCTU donation of $1,000 matched fully by the Georgia Council, our Roswell High School Fly Fishing Club was able to purchase new gear for their members (rod sets, boots and waders).
The equipment will be owned by our chapter, but will be housed at the school for use by the RHS club members. If you'd like to join in and help with a future fishing event, contact Jim Harvey, club advisor at 404-933-5976.

Women's Fly Fishing Clinic was a Big Success!
|
This past October 22, UCCTU held a special half-day "Women's Fly Fishing Clinic" co-presented by our chapter sponsor Alpharetta Outfitters. Jim Owen headed up this very successful event along with Jeff Wright of AO. The event was attended by over 35 women and girls (age 16+) who wanted to learn our great sport of fly fishing.
We are planning to follow up this event with a fishing day for the participants at a local lake. If you'd like to help contact Jim Owen at [email protected].

Free TU Membership for Veterans
|
TU offers a free, one-year trial membership for veterans. It's only offered for a new TU membership and cannot
be used for a renewal. The requirements are that the individual is a veteran and is involved with our chapter's Veterans Service Partnership program.
The veteran will receive all the benefits of a paid membership and the satisfaction of knowing they're a part of a growing community of individuals who enjoy angling and want to keep America's rivers cold, clean and fishable now and in the future.
If you know of a Veteran interested in Trout Unlimited and becoming a member of TU and our chapter, have them get in touch with Cullen McClure: [email protected].

Chapter Strategic Plan to be Updated
|
The Executive Committee of the chapter has begun steps to review and update the chapter's 5-year Strategic Plan. The first Strategic Plan covered the period from 2012 through 2017. The new plan will cover 2018 to 2022. Once the plan is finalized and approved by the full Board, a copy will be placed on the chapter website.

Southern Trout Shootout
|
Southern Trout Magazine
is offering a chance for UCCTU to win one of five Thomas & Thomas fly rods for a future raffle or next year's annual fundraiser.
The contest winner from our area (GA/SC-15 chapters) will be the chapter that signs up the most chapter members, non-members anglers, family members or friends by December 10. Winning chapters in five state regions will be announced on December 15.
If you already receive the magazine, don't worry, you may still help us win by entering your information on the form on their site. Be sure to include UCCTU as your chapter. Their subscriber list program will automatically remove your duplicate email address.
An early look at the results has TU's Blue Ridge chapter winning our region, so click HERE to enter your information.
